Has anyone listened to the new Springsteen release?
I have it cued up on Napster right now- Sounds like classic Bruce and E Street Band stuff. I like it! I'll probably go buy a copy this weekend.

Good to hear The Boss again. BTW...where the hell you been lately perripken??? Good to see ya back |
I'm back!
Hey Thunder...
Sorry.... I was on a Hiatus(sp?) Doing major remodeling job- no time for the TFP, but I truly missed it! Good to see you're still alive and kicking. Hey, since I have your undivided attention, and knowing you're a big Seger fan, did you get his newest CD, Face the promise? I think it's well done. I only wish I could have gone to see him!:) |
Yes, I got the new Seger. I agree it is fantastic. I didn't go see him either, couldn't get tickets.
Back on subject this new Bruce is some of the best stuff I have heard in a long time. Thanks for the post, causing me to go look it up. |
I've not been a big fan of Springsteen's albums since TUNNEL OF LOVE; there are bits and pieces on most that I like, but not as a whole. Two listens to MAGIC make me think it may be his best in 20 years.

The new album - Magic - is good - it is a very political album. Bruce is pissed off about the war, the casualties and the assault on civil liberties by the Bush administration. This is not my political statement - it is my read on the album. So the songs all seem to have at least two parallel meanings. The musis is excellent - returns to rockin days with the E Street Band. If you get the chance, take in a Bruce and ESB show - very entertaining.

It's not my favorite Bruce album. It has some good stuff, but I am turned off by the political crap. Plus there seems to be a lot more repetition on both Magic and Rising. Singing the same line over and over again in the chorus gets old. Plus there is repetition in the lyrics as well. He seems to have an obsession with "blood on the lips" and "Is anybody alive out there". The both of those phrases were featured heavily in the last few tours.
Everything he puts out is way above what most artists churn out these days, but to me this is one of his weakest albums. For the last 25 years I have gone to most shows in a 30 mile radius, even if there were consecutive nights. But after the October 19th show in St Paul I don't think I will bother with the return engagement in March. The current tour is all about Bruce, with none of the E-Street band getting any real "spotlight" time, like the Rising tour. I get the feeling he is starting to take himself too seriously. |
magic is a great album its almost like bruce has found himself again
