Stadium Arcadium

Does it bother anyone else that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are getting widespread credit as ARTISTS (I stress the word) because of what is definitely the worst album they've in about 20 or 25 years?

Yeah... I feel like they phoned this one in. Out of the 25 + songs I think about 3 were half-decent.

For me it was more like two and one song that was really "The Mountain Song" by Jane's Addiction redone.

the beauty of artistry is that it is up for different types of interpretation. i had no problem with the album.

I am okay with that, but this album wasn't even a new spin on anything. It was only lyrically short of a cover album.

It may be just me, but I seem to think all their songs are the same. I can see having a sound, but everything they do just seems like the last.

Most anything can be defined as "art", so I try to avoid using the term. What is there to interpret? Stadium Arcadium is funky, catchy and fun but you won't lose sleep trying to figure out what it means.

So, do they deserve credit as "artists"? As I see it, no. But whatever, it's fun music and providing people recognize it for what it is, I don't care.

dude, if you can create music...that's art. not everyone can. there is nothing wrong with a funky, catchy, and fun album...THAT'S MUSIC!!! who says there has to be something deeper to it...IT'S MUSIC...IT GETS YOU MOVING AND MAKES YOU HAPPY!

Right... that's what I'm saying. I think that Stadium Arcadium is crap. If you enjoy it, great, listen to it. If you're looking for fun, funky, catchy music then it's not a bad choice. All I'm pointing out is that there isn't much beneath the surface.

Thank you. I am a huge John Frusciante fan and this album was supposed to be his "shining moment" with the Peppers, yet it left alot of the feeling his music normally carries out and was jsut empty riff after empty riff with the exception of "if" and "Desecration" Smile"

I used to be a pretty big fan of the band, even got to see them in Ottawa. Don't listen to them any more. John is a good guitarist but as part of this particular whole... eh, not so much. I don't understand why they'd release two hours of material when so little of it is interesting and memorable.

My sentiments exactly.

I personally enjoy the album. You're right, there's not much under the surface, but it's funky as hell and sounds good.

As for Frusciante, I've never considered him among the "greats". As a matter of fact, I feel the only meaningful guitar riff he's ever done was the verse riffs for Under the Bridge. Other than that, he's yet to really impress me. Flea and Chad, however, never fail me.

Like almost every double album every recorded, it's really one good album and then 15 tracks of filler. I think if you distilled it down, you could make one pretty darn good 12-13 track album from the song selection

The riff from the verse of "Soul To Squeeze" is pretty great

He's not one of the "greats", he's one of the... "goods." Then again, most lists of the "greats" are incomplete and incredibly biased in favor of the accessible, so who knows.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to disagree with you. I might have given you Road Trippin' or Tell Me Baby (and that's really pushing it), but Soul to Squeeze is pretty much just him playing a bunch of small fills and simple solos.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Frusciante sucks. He's definately a good guitarist, and he has plenty of talent. I just feel like he never really uses his talent to its fullest extent. On top of that, whenever I hear a Chili Pepper song his guitar playing fails to stand out. His style has lost its creativity, and he's always being overshadowed by Flea. Even when they improv at a concert, Flea really just takes over.

All in all, I still love RHCP and Stadium Arcadium. They always write catchy and funky tunes, and I still hear some creative stuff coming from Flea and Chad.

oh I'm sorry, You meant him displaying his talent. I was jsut referring to his playing for the song itself. His playing made that song so sad, which is why I brought it up. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
