Nice choices Mean. Beirut is amazing, you should see them live if you haven't already... such talent out of a 19 year old.
|
Architecture in Helsinki - In Case We Die
Hank Williams - 24 of Hank Williams' Greatest Hits Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? Beck - Sea Change Erin McKeown - Grand Lily Allen - Alright, Still Of those, only heard Of Montreal in its entirety so far. And it's lots of fun. Never expected to hear something like "The Past is a Grotesque Animal" come out of that band. |
I went to a show here in capital city to see a guy named Royal Wood. He's an up and comer Torontonian. He has a few albums out, but the one I purchased is called A Good Enough Day. Not a bad effort. If you want to sample a few tunes, I suggest "Juliet", "A Mirror Without" or "The Spirits and I".
|
I had to repurchase Slayer's Christ Illusion because my copy was lifted. On a side note, I saw them on 7 Feb, it was one hell of a show. They still got it.
|
Dalbello - Whore

|
I had a 50 dollar gift certificate for itunes...so I invested in the following:
Damien Rice - 9 The Weepies - Say I Am You Anberlin - Cities 30 Seconds to Mars - A Beautiful Lie Stone Sour - Come What(ever) May and loads of random singles. Also aquired the new Fall Out Boy CD. Haven't made a ruling on it yet. lol |

More fun rock! http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Bobby Bare Jr's Young Criminals Starvation League - the longest meow The band put on a great performance at the 2005 Austin City Limits festival on both the smaller stage to cover for an act that could not make it, and on one of the main stages. Hopefully this CD can help pin down their great live performance http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Lizzie West & the White Buffalo - I Pledge Allegience to Myself Her first album, Holy Road, was really really good. Now that she named her band as part of the artist, there may be a wider range of sounds. http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Everything But the Girl - Like The Deserts Miss The Rain Compilation that includes a lot of their early acoustic stuff. I remember downloading it about 4-5 years ago in college, but finally got around to buying this great partial 'best of' album |
The Casket Lottery - Smoke and Mirrors
Feist - Let It Die Feist is a repurchase, after a loan to a friend turned indefinite. $6 used, so what the hey. Casket Lottery is emo hard rock along the lines of Cursive. The EP has three crap tracks and one solidly good title track, but $3 used, so what the hey. It was a what-the-hey kind of day. |
MeanSpleen:
I like the new Lucinda album...it's not much of a departure from her earlier albums and a few of the songs are a little...eh, baffling. Not as strong as others. It's pretty dark. Surprise! lol But I tend to like that about her. I like it and am glad to have it, but it hasn't blown me away |
wife got 10 free album downloads via her frequent flier points so:
TV on the Radio - "Return to Cookie Mountain" (pretty good, but way overhyped) Starsailor - "On the Outside" (Brit rock without much substance, but I still love them) Sean Lennon - "Friendly Fire" (Really, really great) The Raconteurs - "Broken Boy Soldiers" (Look Ma! Rock n' Roll!) Metallica - "Kill Em' All" (One of those albums I never got around to buying on CD....guess I can throw my cassette away now) Thom Yorke - "The Eraser" (Definitely have to be in the right mood for this one) Flaming Lips - "At War With the Mystics" (Not quite as good as "Yoshimi", but still fantastic) Muse - "Black Holes and Revelations" (Not as good as "Absolution", but I like it) |
the bombay connection vol. 1: funk from bollywood action thrillers 1977-1984
in a world piled so high with cheese, talking is difficult. that is why words fail me about this cd. |
BLAMMO! Only took freaking forever for it to come out in the states... and they left off Addicted! DANG IT

A Whisper in the Noise - As the Bluebird Sings
Fields - 7 From the Village Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde Cat Power - Moon Pix Peter Bjorn and John - Writer's Block Fields' "Song For the Fields" has been my favorite song for a couple weeks now. It's on their myspace page (although it's the newer LP version that strikes me as significantly less compelling). |
Mitch Forman - Mr. Clean
|
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Living With the Living
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank John Vanderslice - Time Travel is Lonely Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire - The Swimming Hour Hell is For Heroes - Transmit Disrupt Richmond Fontaine - The Fitzgerald Gomez - Liquid Skin Olivia Tremor Control - Music from the Unrealized Film Script, Dusk at Cubist Castle |
My boyfriend gave me the Live at Massey Hall 1971 cd by Neil Young and I'm really loving it. It's a real keeper. Probably one of my favorite live recordings ever.

Amy Winehouse - "Frank"
Thanks to the thread started here on TFP, no less. It is a really great album, and I haven't even finished the entire thing! (On Track 10 - "October Song" right now) It is a very different sound, but pleasing nonetheless. Very well-composed. I don't think I'm gonna be able to stop complimenting this album, so I'll stop here. :D Grreat! |
The Blackening - Machine Head

Warren Zevon - Preludes
Just got it this AM, it is a collection of his early stuff on disk 1, including some of his fan favorites, all recorded before 1976. Plus a 2nd disk with 3 songs and several interviews. |
I don't think I post in here enough.
Blue October: I got this when i heard the song: "hate me" on the radio. it's a damn good album. I recommend to everyone who wants some chill rock. rating:9/10 |

Kim Richey's CHINESE BOXES was the last one I bought. Produced by Giles Martin (son of George), it's a wonderful disc, although at 10 tracks, a bit short for my liking.
But then, I've liked all of Richey's albums so far. |
Technically the last CD i bought was Patton Oswalt's Werewolves and lolipops but thats a comedy CD...The last music CD i bought was Queens of the Stone Age, Era Vulgaris. Amazing.
|
Just bought "Easy Tiger" by Ryan Adams at a starbucks today; sadly. To be fair it was an impulse buy. Very solid album, best since Heartbreaker. Very good album; good if you like mello-country/folk. Very good. Sort of got a jazzy feel to it.

CD Purchases
My latest cd purchase was Fade To Black by Amy Weinhouse. Fantastic!!
|
Bubblegum Crisis, complete vocal collections, 3 disc set. I didn't buy it becuase it was anime music, I bought it because it sounds exactly how the 80's sounded... with Japanese voices. I wish I could find the English versions I heard, because those were kick ass 80's too.
Before that it was Cold's A Different Kind of Pain and Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise vol 5/ |
Protest the Hero - Fortress
The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath |
I don't purchase cd's very often, only highly desired new releases, but I swap them a lot.

And many more that I can't remember right now. I love trading. It's the only way I can satisfy my fetish for music both legally and financially. :) |

Her second album, Fisherman's Woman, strips out nearly all the possible electronic themes from the music and goes almost full on accoustic. |
Yes, I have Fisherman's Woman on my wish list. But being that she's a fairly popular newer artist, her cd's rarely pop up. I was thrilled to get this one.
I love her voice. |
Hey Mixed, thanks to your recommendation I sampled some Sonya Kitchell. I really like her. So thanks.
And I gotta throw a plug in for Grateful Dead's "Workingman's Dead". One of my favourite albums. |
Fucking sublime album.
