I just got a cd by a group called Niyaz:
"Niyaz is an acoustic electronic project...to form an exciting new fusion of Persian and Indian influenced music with modern electronics." I'm lovin it! Also picked up the latest from TransGlobal Underground, but haven't really listened to it, I'm stuck on Niyaz for now. Oh, last week got Shakira's latest as well, Oral Fixation Vol. 1. There are a couple songs I'm absolutely obsessed with, and a few others that I just "enjoy". It's good. |
Blondie - Greatest Hits
Boys Night Out - Make Yourself Sick Flogging Molly - Alive Behind The Green Door |
The End - Within Dividia (AWESOME!! If you're into stuff like Dillinger, PsyOpus.. you'll love this band)
Haste The Day - whatever their new one is called. Not nearly as good as Burning Bridges, but tolerable. Too much clean vocals on this one. |
I'm going to be honest with you, I haven't bought a cd in a looooooooooooong time. But seeing the prices now, I'll have to say its gotten its appeal back. Today I went into the store and bought...
Rise Against - Siren of the Counter Culture Social Code - a year at the movies (Excellent local band. check out the songs Perfect Grave and Beautiful) Pennywise - The Fuse (When the fuck did this come out???) All awesome cd's. |
the hooters -- nervous night
|
Tonight I bought Jack Johnson's on and on without knowing a single song on the album, and Metric's Old World Underground, Where are you now?
Both excellent CDs that I reccommend to anyone who appeciates either 1. mellow accoustic folk rock or 2. sexy mellow chick rock. Definitely worth the money. |
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor
It is really freakin' good. I suggest you go buy it. DO IT NOW!!!!! Really, it is very good. |
Silverstein - When broken is easily fixed
The Matches - E. Von Dahl killed the locals hawthorne heights - Silence in black and white motion city soundtrack - commit this to memory beck - odelay blink 182 - dude ranch |
I picked up the new Wallflowers after hearing it on Rhapsody. I haven't gotten a handle on it yet--I don't know the songs by title yet--but so far, it seems to be as good as the previous three albums I have.
|
Ministry of Sound - Clubber's Guide to Ibiza 2005, picked it up while out of the country on a business trip. Good CD.
|
Jetpack - Surfin' To No Doubt
It's a No Doubt tribute CD full of surf inspired instrumentals. |
Robert Randolph and The Family Band: LIVE AT THE WETLANDS.
Funk rock jams, led by Randolph's amazing playing on the pedal steel guitar. |
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia and Deadwing... I'm impressed. I was told about these guys on another message board, but not told anything about their music so I had no idea what to expect. Good stuff!
Meshaggah - Catch Thirty-Three... This is the only CD I own by these guys, and I love it! I don't know how they normally do their CDs, but if their all similar to this then I need to get more by them. It's like one really, really long, really, really good song. |
Latest Cd I purchased was White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan
Great CD, I hope this wins a grammy too |
Of Montreal - The Sunlandic Twins
Of Montreal - Satanic Panic in the Attic They Might Be Giants - Indestructible Object ep Travis - Why Does It Always Rain On Me? single |

"The Devil's Rejects Soundtrack"
Awsome southern rock and quotes from the movie. Sweet! |
Kanye West - Late Registration... I haven't had a proper chance to listen to it yet, but what I have heard has been impressive. I should have a chance tonight, and if so I'll come back and edit.
Cold - A Different Kind Of Pain... Dark, dreary, and sad. Just what I've come to expect from these guys. Nothing groundbreaking, but a pretty good CD overall. |
Last Purchase : Michelle Branch - Hotel Paper
|
I put in an order this morning for:
Pelican - Untitled Pelican - Australasia Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw I've had all these for some time, but not actually purchased them, so I figured I'd go ahead and do that. All 3 of those Priority mailed to me for less than $35. YAY!! |
James Brown - Star Time
|
Nickel Creek - Nickel Creek
Beck - Odelay |
i recently picked up:
The newest: Drive By Truckers, White Stripes and Black Keys albums. I really dig the Drive By Truckers, they have a little bit of snarl to them, and they tell a good story. |
an AC/DC tribute album called Back in Bluegrass. All AC/DC hits done as instrumentals with Bluegrass instruments. and this thing friggin rocks!!!!
On May 31st, CMH Records will be releasing Back In Bluegrass: The Bluegrass Tribute to AC/DC, reports BW&BK. According to the label, the gutsy lock-step stomp of AC/DC’s music fits wonderfully into the bluegrass two-step and there’s plenty of pickin’ goin’ on to keep even the pickiest quitar aficianado grinnin’ from ear to ear. Slap it on and hit the highway to hellbilly heaven. Back In Bluegrass will contain the following 12 songs: "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", "Hells Bells", "Highway To Hell", "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Stiff Upper Lip", "For Those About To Rock We Salute You", "Big Gun", "Shoot To Thrill", "Money Talks", "Thunderstruck", "Back In Black" |
HammerFall - Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed and Unbroken
and finally bought Opeth - Ghost Reveries after downloading and enjoying it. |

Nice to see another Failure fan around...that band changed my life back in the day. Ever check out Ken Andrews' newer projects, like On and Year of the Rabbit?
|
Oh yes, and I just picked up: Alice Russell's 'My Favourite Letters' on Tru Thoughts, John Arnold's 'Style and Pattern' on Ubiquity (gonna spin that one this Friday at my residency!), and Hajime Yoshizawa's 'Music From the Edge of the Universe'...great cosmic broken beats and soulful tunes...

Well, Comfort is good if you are into a very muffled, low-fi sound!
Steve Albini was responsible for the botched production on that album (and I say botched because I've heard 1st year recording students get better results...Albini had no excuse). The songs are still pretty good, especially Macaque and Screen Man. I'd get it last, and also pick up the CD/DVD combo 'Golden', which is basically a b-sides/demos/history compilation. Good stuff, though. Magnified is definitely the next album to get...it's right up there with FanPlan in terms of quality, just a little less "spacey" and more melancholy. My fave songs on there are Empty Friend, Frogs, and Bernie. Oh, try listening to Bernie while in the car at twilight in the summertime, with the windows rolled down...hard to describe the feeling I get when I do this. I associate certain songs with certain times of the year...like Suzanne Vega's 'In Liverpool' with a cold winter night. Also, if you like Magnified, check out both Year of The Rabbit's album and Ken's solo stuff, under the name of On. YOTR is a bit more like Failure, although not as sophisticated, and On is a bit like Failure with lots of synths. You might want to check out the Replicants CD, a new wave covers side project of Tool, Medicine, and Failure alums, as well as Lusk's album "Free Mars. You might also like music by the group Blinker the Star. All can probably be had for cheap on half.com or Amazon. |
I bought a CD from a street musician in Seattle named "three stars" who plays guitar and sings classic country songs. Its really stripped down, but well done for a home recording
|
I just got "Classic" by the Living Legends in the mail.

Anyway, are they getting any airtime on the radio lately? ***** 1 = sucks 5 = completely average 10 = will never take out of player (that 6 you see means its just better than the average pop album) The Like - Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking (8 of 10) Ephemera - Score (in mail) Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself (release next month, preordered, 1/2 of Frou Frou) Muse - Origin of Symmetry (Finally the North American release, in mail) Maximo Park - A Certain Trigger (7 of 10) Esthero - Wikked Lil Grrls (7 of 10) Kronos Quartet w/ Asha Bosle - You've Stolen My Heart: Songs from R.D. Burman's Bollywood (8 of 10; The worlds most recorded voice) Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten (6 of 10) New Pornographers - Twin Cinema (7 of 10; not as good as Mass Romantic, needs more Neko) Conjure One - Extraordinary Ways (7 of 10; not as good as his first one) |

I saw them open at a Tori Amos concert, that's where I first heard their music. Also was going to see them open at a Nickel Creek concert, but my sense of direction screwed up those plans. But I ended up getting the CD at that concert. Good stuff, though I wish it were half as lively as their live performance was. |
Yeah, nearly all the Ditty Bops shows out in Hollywood are themed shows, so they are rarely ever the same. I'm sort of interested in what had to be toned down/cut for a touring production.
|
I just bought a spindle of blanks, and have started to record my vinyl albums over onto them. Last night I created the following CDs:
Focus - Dutch Masters George Benson - Breezin' ELO - A New World Record The Clash - Sandinista All with their original cover art. |
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm Remixed
|
Most recent to older:
Deltron 3030 instrumentals, Atmosphere (You can't imagine how much fun we're having) Outkast (Speakerboxx/the love below) Neil Young (Greendale) Willie Dixon (I am the blues) It is great living 3 blocks away from a cd store The deltron is awesome (Love Story is my new fav), the atmosphere is decent but overproduced and it all sort of has the same style (I like the Lucy Ford era stuff better), Outkast is always fun, I was really impressed with the Neil Young - it has has folk music sensibilities but grungier edge, and the writing/narrative is superb. Willie Dixon is backed up by his all-star band, so it is a bit more polished than I generally like my blues, but excellent throughout, and you can hear the originals of a couple songs that Led Zeppelin (and other Rock/blues artists) covered. |
I just picked up Plans and The Stability EP from Deathcab For Cutie.
Haven't gotten to really listen to them yet, but I'm sure they'll be great. :) |
Beck - Mutations
|
I'm thinking of picking up the live Mars Volta disc that came out today. Has anyone heard it yet?
|
Animal Collective - Feels
|
The Mars Volta - Scab Dates
System of a Down - Hypnotize |
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Sarah Blasko - The Overture & The Underscore You should listen to: 'Always Worth It' http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Hem - Rabbit Songs http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Hem - Eveningland You should listen to: 'A Hunting We Will Go' http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Brandi Carlile - Brandi Carlile You should listen to: 'Throw It All Away' |
29 by Ryan Adams and FUNERAL by Arcade Fire. I picked 'em both up to put in my stocking hung by the television with care (we don't have a fireplace). COLD ROSES is better than 29, but I like 29 more than I cared for JACKSONVILLE CITY NIGHTS. FUNERAL is pretty good, sort of like the intersection between Talking Heads Way and Daniel Lanios Lane.
|
I had $50 in Xmas cash to spend, and figured I could either get a few CD's or an Xbox game with it. Well I went to Best Buy and got the entire System of a Down back catalogue (SoaD, Toxicity and Steal this Album) PLUS Jade Empire for Xbox for $50
|
Toxicity is a weird album. The first 5 tracks are all speed, speed, speed/scream, scream, scream. But once you hit Chop Suey!, the sound turns much more into what Hypnotize/Mesmerize are....changing tempos, harmonies, etc. IMHO, I think the second half of the album trumps the first half by leaps and bounds.
|
Sublime: Gold. What a disappointment. There are maybe 5 songs that I genuinely like on this two-disc set, and there are a total of around 30 songs. So much for how "awesome" everyone told me Sublime is.
|
Coldplay X&Y, not even for myself.
|
wilco - kicking television
|
Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore's R-A-I-N-B-O-W
|
Far - Water and Solutions ($0.99, but still not quite worth it)
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine (disappointment...liked the demos much more) Wilco - A Ghost is Born (great zoning-out music so far) Iron & Wine - Woman King ep Sufjan Stevens - Illinois Elliott Smith - Elliott Smith And when it comes in...Mogwai - Happy Songs For Happy People |
shalabi effect: unfortunately
|
hmm rammstein - Live aus berlin
motorhead - overkill deluxe edition korn - see you on the other side so far rammstein is my favorite of the three i have the big motorhead boxset so it isnt really like a new cd to me the korn one is really catchy but then gets old a little fast also got rages renegades and battle of los angeles |
I havent bought a CD in a mad long time, but as good as I can recall, my last purchase was the new Katie Melua.
|
EMIN3M, Curtain call.
Weezer, Make Believe. Can't remember anymore. Mikey |
Slipknot - Volume 3 the Subliminal Verses
Black Label Society - 1919 - Eternal Machine Head - Burn My Eyes Pantera - Far Beyond Driven & Reinventing the Steel All of them are incredibly good, especially the first two. |
John Mayer Trio - Try!
Absolutely phenominal. With this disc he's moved away from the pre-teen pop ballads he became famous for (although most of his non-radio songs showed some real talent) and moved towards a very laid back bluesy/classic rock feel. It's a live disc, so it does have some old songs (Daughters, Something's Missing) however he revamps both of them. A great buy, I can't reccomend it highly enough |
Kelli Ali - Psychic Cat
The Birthday Massacre - Violet |
Rogue Wave - Descended Like Vultures
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - lift yr. skinny fists like antennas to heaven |
Heather Nova- Redbird
Ringside- Ringside INXS- Switch James Blunt- Back To Bedlam Mostly these were iTunes full album downloads :) Being able to download and preview (listen) to music online has saved me much cake. |
Orange Sky - Upstairs
This band is pretty interesting sounding. They are out of Trinidad and are a mix of reggae, rock and metal. Google them and they have 2 min clips and some videos on there site. I ordered the CD off of ebay and can't wait for it to arrive. |
Mostly from Christmas:
The Shins: Chutes Too Narrow Iron & Wine: Our Endless Numbered Days Dntel: Life is Full of Possibilities Assorted Artists: Garden State Soundtracks Death Cab for Cutie: The Stability EP Death Cab for Cutie: The Sound of Settling (I believe it's an import) A Ha: Scoundel Days Franz Ferdinand: You Could Have It So Much Better Hot Hot Heat: Make Up The Breakdown North American Hallowe'en Preventive Initiative: Do They Know It's Halloween? (limited edition charity project featuring tons of great indie-alt darlings) After several years of not really buying CD's, I've now got a list of new artists (most actually older acts that I'm now becoming acquainted with) a mile long. :) |
Tax return money is fun!
Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days Iron & Wine - The Creek Drank the Cradle Iron & Wine - Passing Afternoon Iron & Wine - The Sea and The Rhythm Iron & Wine - Woman King Calexico/Iron & Wine - In The Reins Killwhitneydead - Inhaling the Breath of a Bullet Killwhitneydead - Never Good Enough for You Killwhitneydead - So Pretty So Plastic Circle of Dead Children - Exotic Sense of Decay Circle of Dead Children - Human Harvest Circle of Dead Children - Zero Comfort Margin Cattle Decapitation - To Serve Man Cattle Decapitation - Humanure Pig Destroyer - Painter of Dead Girls I had to order almost all of them, but they should be here by week's end, so I'll be happy then! |
robert wyatt & friends: theatre royal drury lane 8 sept. 1974.

Mew and the Glass Handed Kites
Nina Nastasia - Run to Ruin |
10 Years - The Autumn Effect
|
Horace Silver - Song For My Father. - This guy is amazing. (Not just the album, Horace Silver himself.)
Ella Fitzgerald - The Complete Ella in Berlin: Mack the Knife. Pat Metheny Group - Pat Metheny Group. - His first, two thumbs up. Miles Davis - Sorcerer. 2nd Album by the Quartet just before he went Fusion. Miles Davis - E.S.P. 1st Album by same group, slightly better, but both are great. If you even have the most remote interest in Jazz, pick up the Ella Fitzgerald one, it is just amazing. |
Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
Lake Trout - Not Them, You Hell is For Heroes - The Neon Handshake Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic Bob Dylan - No Direction Home |

Brilliant album! |
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Ulver - Blood Inside Fucking phenomenal. Listen to Christmas, It Is Not Sound, Operator. http://musik.terrorverlag.de/musik/i...n/ulverrmx.jpg Ulver - First Decade In The Machines Listen to Track Slow Snow, Wolf Rotovator, He Said - She Said. There are very few bands that have overtaken me like this but I must admit that Ulver are by far one of the most original bands I've ever heard. It's a shame I got into them this late into the game but I fear that earlier appreciation of their music might've tainted or corrupted my appreciation of these albums - the first being their latest release and the second being a remix album of 14 tracks from a few of their albums. ...amazing band... |
These are the two newest cds in heavy rotation on our stereo and automobile.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg and http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg |
