DI.FM
A friend in WoW introduced me to www.di.fm . I love this site. They have a huge selection of VERY high quality streaming radio with few commercials. The electronica selections are my favorite but there's something for everyone. I didn't even know I liked Drum N Bass music until I listened to the station on DI.FM and am now obsessed with it. Does anyone else listen to this site??

I'm listening to it right now! A friend introduced me to di.fm a while ago, and I love it! They now work with Sky to provide some more mainstream channels as well as their electronic stuff, so now I can get my friends into it.
The Chillout and Psy/Goa trance channels are my favorites! |

I used to - very long ago. They had some really good soulful house stations back then.
I've been using Pandora for the last few months and I've discovered alot of new music and genres I was unaware even existed. Thanks for the flashback - I'll go over to di.fm and see if it's as good as it used to be.

I used to listen to it years ago when they had free 128 kbps streams, and it was basically my introduction to electronic music too. I still love electronic music (seems weird to me how there are apparently so many people who like it and then don't), but I've held a "grudge" with DI ever since they downgraded the free streams to 96k, although I seem to have been the only person there who cared. I just feel like it was a bait and switch, like get the site popular with good quality free streams then go for the $$$. The response I got when I brought it up in the forums was basically, there are still free streams, you should be happy with that, blah blah.
I would have had no problem if they just introduced subscription streams at like 160, 192, 225, or whatever, its the fact that they downgraded the free service that indicates an obvious money grab and bothers me. It would be like the TFP adding some new subscription forums as well as making the current member forums subscription only. (and in case anyone might ask, yes I've donated to TFP in the past, not a lot, but probably will again soon, and I also would have been happy donating to DI to keep a free service going, but it's not like they asked as in, "donate or good quality free streams will be going away", they just disappeared) Obviously that might not be much of a business model for the TFP since there aren't that many potential paying customers but DI had them and didn't mind going for them. But I did manage to rip most of the Trance channel stream at 128k while it was still free so I've got a nice archive of it circa 2003 (hmm, that gives me an idea involving a new hard drive and a one-month DI subscription.. ![]() just my 2c, I know nobody's going to agree with me because nobody did when it happened. it's not about the money, in fact I've spent hundreds of dollars on records most of which are either songs I first heard on DI or by artists who I found out about through DI, its just the principle of the thing. anyway it's nice to see some TFPers interested in electronic music. here are some Really Free stations to check out, if you haven't already: http://www.philosomatika.com/ Goa/Psytrance http://somafm.com/ http://afterhoursdjs.org/ Last edited by n0nsensical; 12-19-2006 at 06:51 AM.. |

I only go to di.fm for their House channel. Best place i've found for deep house. Other than that, its SomaFM.
![]() Incidently, if anyone else knows a good place to go for deep house, or house in general, please let me know!!

Actually, n0nsensical, I agree with you for the most part. I used to listen to DI.fm all the time. Then, as more and more people had the bandwidth to listen to 128k streams, they took them away. There's a reason I don't listen to mp3s that are below 128k (hell, I almost never listen to mp3s that ARE 128k), and I'm certainly not interested in listening to electronica at 98k, especially when I used to get higher quality for free from the same source.
Don't get me wrong, I do think DI plays great stuff. It helped introduce me to electronic music too, and I listened to it pretty much nonstop during my freshman year of college. These days, I spend most of my internet radio time at SomaFM and HBR1. HBR1 doesn't have 128k mp3 streams, but they make up for it by having OGG streams which sound quite good considering.
