dewey redman, r.i.p.
sad news for a holiday weekend...dewey redman has died. he played tenor with ornette coleman, old and new dreams, keith jarret's late 1970s american quartet..a beautiful player.

The Survivor Suite by Keith Jarrett's american quartet is one of my favourite albums of all time.
Dewey was a true individual.

I was listening to Pat Metheny's 80/81 when I heard he passed away, although I knew he was in a coma hence why I spun it.
Sad news, he was an amazing player

i have a deep affection for old and new dream's live album "playing"--particularly the version of ornette's "happy house"--everyone on that track is at the top of their game, but dewey and eddie blackwell in particular are amazing on it.
survivor's suite is lovely as well.
