Saul Williams Kicked My Ass Last Night!
Even though he was the opening act of the Nine Inch Nails tour, Saul Williams was the highlight of the show as far as I'm concerned.
He opened up with the poem that is at the last bit of the movie "Slam" (which is also very good), then just did songs from his self titled album. Some sounded just like on the album, some sounded even more like poetry than they do on the album, and on occasion he'd drop the beat completely and just do it spoken word style. He was flat out wonderful! Nine Inch Nails was also excellent. It was my first time seeing them for whatever reason, and I was impressed. They did a three song bit where they had a cloth dropped and just showed visuals on that with a big projector, that was very cool! Overall, I enjoyed the hell out of last night, but I've found myself listening to nothing but Saul Williams today. Is anyone else planning on going to this tour? Anyone already been? Anyone have a different opinion about this tour, and think I missed something because I was too focused on the opener? |

Saul Williams is the greatest poet of our time. You gotta hand it to him. Not only does he write poems that makes you think about just fucked up emotions and feelings, but he took acting and speaking classes to be able to do it in front of people on a stage. This guy's presence is awe-inspiring.

I also bought his book "The Dead Emcee Scrolls" and am browsing through it quite a bit. Awesome poetry! |

i disagree that saul williams is the greatest poet of our time, even though i am a fan. still, its a matter of personal preference.
but on a side note, "grippo" is my favourite song! and i wanted to see him very much when he opened for my morning jacket!
