I saw Coldplay in concert tonight
They were in Louisville, KY and the opening act was Fiona Apple. Fiona was pretty good (I knew all her songs), but Coldplay was just amazing! This was my first time seeing them, though I've been fan since Parachutes.
Anybody else seen them on tour? If you get a chance, you really should go! (Chris Martin was looking scruffy and sexy as ever!) :D |
I hate you. Just kidding, Plummie, I don't hate you, but I sure do envy you. They are not coming to my city and it's a airfare of about $400 + the ticket and a place to spend the night to see them.
|
They're coming to Chicago at the end of March, I'd like to go to another show (they'll be there for two nights). Where are you at, Lucifer?
|
They put on a good show. Just finished watching their Glastonbury Festival show. Live would be better. (<-understatement)
Not sure why, but I thought of U2 in the mid/late 80's. |
Newfoundland, unfortunately. We are the capital of our province but the city is too small to get such a big name.
|
I saw their their live show for the Rush of Blood to the Head Album here in Lisbon...it was really excellent. The sort of simple but all about the music type of concert, with a great vibe. The best part of the show was when they played "Daylight" I think it was, and they had a laser projection of the sky that was just above everyone's head and it was amazing!
I didn't get to go to their 2nd concert here because when I went to buy tickets, they were all sold out! :( |

Glad you and I cyrnel know where it's at. |
I'm just glad someone else noticed. :)
I watched it again last night after this thread. There are many similarities in the guitar playing and drums. Especially when Buckland starts into the harmonics. Edge is all over. Some of the riffs are almost copies. Drum rythms & lead-ins really have a Mullen thing going. U2 somewhere around Joshua Tree, well before the Achtung Baby shift. I'd have to listen more but it's there. Not that U2 hasn't been around long enough to influence lots of bands...I just didn't pick up on it before. |
Clocks is sooooooo U2ish. I've always thought they were a lot a like.
I remember Paul McCartney being asked about Oasis sounding a lot like the Beatles. He responded with 'we're all derivative of something, aren't we?' I never really thought is it that way before, I suppose so. Even the Beatles were. |
Not bad comparisons, eh? I wouldn't mind. Absolutely it's all borrowed.
Funny, I just googled for coldplay & U2. It's a very old comparison. Swell, one more way to feel old. :D |
I can see the influence of U2 in Coldplay's music, for sure. But for some reason I feel a much deeper kinship with Coldplay. Maybe because Bono gets on my nerves?
|
I saw them play in West Palm Beach! The only thing that sucked was he lost his voice from a cold, but he still put on a hell of a show! Not sure if he did the same thing for you, but I loved when he played "Yellow" and all the big yellow balls came down and where bouncing everywhere! Yea I love that band!
|
Yup they had the big yellow balls filled with yellow confetti at this show too! It was awesome. :)
|
I'm sitting here, slowly but surely turning green with envy.
/mopes off to listen to Fix You... |

I saw them last fall here in Charlotte. Great show. You can really hear tinges of punk underlying thier sound. Quite dynamic, and much much better then they are on CD. |
