'05 BRABUS SLR McLaren

it's just too bad Mercedes-Benz and McLaren broke off their partnership

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is one of the world's most fascinating sports cars. Following their credo that the best is just good enough for BRABUS the engineers and designers at BRABUS have developed an exclusive sport program for the two- seater. It lets owners of the top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models further individualize their vehicles.

BRABUS equips the SLR with a special self-locking differential. Its 40 percent locking rate further optimizes the super sports car's traction and thus further improves acceleration.

In BRABUS Racing version with performance-improving fuel cooling, custom camshafts and an open racing exhausts system maximum power output of the supercharged V8 engine increases to 660 hp 6500 rpm. The exhaust system is not certified for use on public roads. Thus equipped the SLR storms to 60 mph from rest in just 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 211 mph.

BRABUS further offers professional modifications to body, suspension and interior that further amplify the sports talents of the SLR.

For further improved directional stability at high speeds the BRABUS designers developed a new spoiler for the front air dam. The exposed-carbon aerodynamic-enhancement part reduces lift on the front axle and adds another shot of racing looks. The rear diffuser is also made from exposed carbon.

The multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock VI 20-inch light-alloy wheels with six double spokes command
immediate attention. The fully polished wheels in size 9.5Jx20 in front and in size 11.5Jx20 on the rear axle fill out the available space below the wheel arches perfectly.

BRABUS chose high-performance tires in sizes 255/30 ZR 20 and 305/25 ZR 20 as the optimal solution. The conversion to the BRABUS 20-inch tire/wheel combination gives the Mercedes- Benz SLR McLaren even more dynamic handling prowess.

BRABUS also adds new sporty and exclusive highlights in the interior. The company-own upholstery shop created a BRABUS interior from an exclusive black and red combination of leather and Alcantara, perfectly crafted down to the last detail. The waffle-design stitching of the SLR leather floor is especially elaborate and it alone uses 7800 meters of the finest thread.

For easier entering and exiting BRABUS manufactured a custom BRABUS sport steering wheel with an ergonomically shaped rim that is flat on the bottom. For manual shifting of the SLR's automatic transmission the BRABUS steering wheel features buttons integrated into the spokes.

The BRABUS interior designers developed precise-fit applications for dashboard, center console and door panels, all made from exposed carbon. They extend the BRABUS exterior carbon look into the interior.

The BRABUS super sports car sells for 600,000 Euros. Included in the price is the SLR's air- freight shipment to anywhere in the world.

Well, according to a currency calculator I looked up, it seems that 600,000 Euro is worth about $794,634 in US funds. On a different note, any of you have $795,000 I could borrow? Please?

wow, that is one of those rare cars that completely backs up its good looks and pedigree with face-flattening performance. Kudos to them.

Kinda funny that the same numbers that car runs are what the new Z06 is claiming... And fully legal on the road... and $65k.

But damn, i still creamed my pants when i say that car.

Sweet car, but I like the unmodified one better. You can't improve on perfection.

Did anyone else notice they charge $300k+ (I'm assuming the quoted cost includes the car) just for new wheels, spoilers, some minor interior mods, and a 5% power bump! I need to start a new business.

You mean 0-60? That's a useless number for high powered cars. It's basically just rating the tires. Put drag slicks on either car, and the numbers will fall dramatically. The SLR would walk away in any real world test (not to mention that Chevy is always overly optimistic with their numbers).

0-60 and top speed match pretty closely. Im going to go way out on a limb, and say the SLR wouldnt just walk away. I think when you are comparing that much power and torque in both cars, the driver is really going to make 100% of the differance.

That said, I'm sure that SLR is so smooth, it makes the new vette seem seem outdated... despite the fact that its outperforming $90k+ porsches in speed, acceleration, and handling.

...Plus, I'll never afford a Brabus SLR,

I heard 198 top speed for the vette, which is quite a bit lower (although still far faster than I'd ever drive!). Also, the SLR is an automatic with good traction control systems, so it would take much less skill to drive fast. I know I can't shift well enough to get good times out of a 500 hp car. If both cars were manuals, I'd agree with you.

the biggest difference (imho) between the Z06 and the SLR is refinement. the Z06 is a rough beast with no frills. the SLR wraps you in quilted leather, even the floorboard! i also would bet that the SLR is more well put together (grammar?) than the Z06, just based on being a Benz flagship versus a Chevy flagship. not to say that i don't LOVE the Z06, but the SLR is more of a full package in awesomeness. with the Z you are paying for engine, tranny, handling, all the mechanics, with the SLR you're paying for that plus all the niceities. is that worth how much more they charge? who knows. but if nothing else you're paying for a name. you're paying for Mercedes, you're paying for Brabus, you're paying for the top of the line front-engine-rear-drive car in the world.

Oh I most definatly agree with you. Obviously theres a reason the Brabus costs as much as it does. I was just pointing out that for a decent driver, (meaning not professional driver) you can pretty much get the same performance at such a drasticly lower price point. But then again, it doesnt have a mercedes symbol on it does it?
