White Faced 01 Grand Prix GTP gauges

Well I helped my friend put a white faced gauge kit in. He got the from www.speedhut.com I think the look good and pretty easy to install, next week we are putting in a set of 3 Autometer C2 gauge that I got him for a steal :)

Niiiiice! especially the night shot. Those gauge pods look a little empty. What guages are you friends installing? Exhaust temp, boost, oil, .....?

merkerguitars 11-08-2004 08:41 PM

The gauges that will be installed are in this order 1. Air fuel Ratio 2. Electronic Boost/Vacuum 3. Electric oil pressure gauge. Here are some pics of the gauges

Nah that pic is with the gauge not hooked up to the engine.
Picked up the oil pressure gauge today, just need to put a hole through the firewall then I can get them hooked up. :)

Hey those are really cool cluster and gauges...pictures of the car + engine maybe?

merkerguitars 11-10-2004 10:16 AM

Thats a nice car he has there. Whats next for him? More engine bolt-ons, lowering springs, or rims?

merkerguitars 11-10-2004 01:03 PM

Whats next probably is, headers, rims, custom exhaust, it already has the following, magnuson nose drive, reprogrammed pcm, smaller supercharger pulley, ram air induction. If we find a spare engine for cheap we will cam it and do head work plus put in roller rockers.

ElwoodBlues 11-10-2004 03:00 PM

its a nice car, but that color scheme just bugs me. I mean, I assume your friend likes it, thats why he did it. But it just doesn't sit well with me.

On the bright side, the night shot of those white faced gauges looks amazing

Dizzet 11-15-2004 12:25 AM

I want a link to a page where you can buy this....

merkerguitars 11-15-2004 07:35 AM

for the overlays www.speedhut.com
for the autometer gauges www.hotrodsonlineparts.com

Cynthetiq 11-15-2004 08:04 AM

cool gauges...

when are speedos and such just going to be LCD displays that are skinnable?

Erm, black?

I think it looks great.

That's an absolutely fantastic idea of skinnable LCD displays though. It'd be a perfect combination of my inner car and computer geeks, without requiring me to reprogram the computer chip or whatnot.

The gauges look great, but I'm still not sure about the yellow on the interior.

What would look awesome under the hood is anodizing the supercharger, valve covers, and other exposed metal. I'd procably go for black to match the car, maybe with yellow bolts to carry over the theme he has going.

merkerguitars 11-15-2004 10:19 AM

Yeah we will probably start building a nice looking looking l67 engine when we can find a spare for cheap (that way he won't be without a car while we build the engine) The black anodizing idea would look pretty cool, I work for a machine shop part time so I can get stuff anodized for cheap. This week we are going to work on cleaning up the engine compartment and tidying up the wiring.

Gabbyness 11-15-2004 01:04 PM

Lot of good work put into that car. You can tell someone really cares about it.

merkerguitars 11-18-2004 07:34 PM

Well well well....he finally bought the oil pressure gauge so now I was able to get it finally in. The gauges are hooked up and a light up but actually aren't functional yet. We still need to punch a nice big hole in the firewall to run the sending unit cables, and mount the map sensor and install the new sending unit for the oil pressure. Here are some pics..they look better than the pics, they where kinda hard to take pics of.

merkerguitars 11-22-2004 10:13 PM

Well actually got the gauges hooked up and from what i'm reading for gauges is the following

Air Fuel Ratio: Running on the richer side very slighty which is way better than running lean

Boost: about 20 psi

Oil pressure a good constant 60-70 psi on a fully warm engine.

jfelco 11-23-2004 10:51 PM

sweet gauges....

negative points though for the auto tranny---

1slOwCD8 11-24-2004 09:12 AM

Wow, your boostin 20psi for daily driving? Is that the factory setting or did u bump it up? If it were me, id set it a little lower for daily driving to put less strain on the internals, and set it higher for racing. Just my opinin though, to be on the safer side.

RaDiAn 11-24-2004 09:42 AM

Hey Great looking car, great job with the gauges. How long did it take to get the dash apart and put back together? Well it looks nice!

Not much you can do about that... only one tranny option on the GP.

merkerguitars 11-27-2004 01:10 AM

To answer some of your questions, yeah it's an auto, someday he'l convert it to stick when this won't be his daily driver.

The factory boost is about 12 psi so we are running more than enough :)

And the dash took about 10 minutes to take apart, it's easy, just snap off the bezel and two screws and the cluster comes out and another 6 I think and the clear lense comes off.
