If you like rock climbing so much you should watch Trucks TV(on the Spike powerblock every weekend, Stacy David loves rised up trucks)

jdubz 08-05-2004 04:52 PM

Yeah I do watch that from time to time, he does good work. Wish I had that kinda $$$

Maybe I should ask Stacy to make my junk a project :D

Almo 08-07-2004 06:46 PM

I just got a '77 cj-5...doing my best to get it to pass emissions (it didn't come with a Cat)...It will be my daily driver for a while, and then I plan to lift it a bit, and see what I can get it to do.

choskins 08-11-2004 02:21 PM

I am, but ever since I got my Overland, my wife won't let me do anything worse than mud and dirt.

"Generally we only use staff vehicles for projects." - Trucks Associate i asked about my suburban a while back

I want to buy a jeep, lower it, and put a 383 w/ blower in it. :)

i wonder what kind of quarter times it would get

twisted_elmo 08-16-2004 10:37 AM

I have a 91 yj lifted, Far from stock... Have a blast in it
Wouldn't trade it for anything

I'm into smaller scale rock crawling. Radio controlled. I recently built the Tamiya TXT-1 kit. It's amazing. It has amazing articulation, and drives over anything it's wheels can get traction on. It's built like a real truck - gear box, drive shafts, differentials, sway bars, etc.
It has dual motors, 4 wheel drive AND 4 wheel steering, and cantilever suspension.

I love trucks and offroading. If I had the money and mechanical skills i'd buy a '78 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 and restore the hell out of it. Thats pretty much my dream car (truck, rather).

I guess untill them, I'm happy with my 1:10 scale crawler :D It's almost all stock right now, but I'm going to make some heavy duty skid plates and get a new body for it and do some other little things. I don't have 4 wheel steering enabled yet, I need a second steering servo (basically a motor for steering).

Anybody else do RC crawling?

st33lr4t 08-16-2004 01:46 PM

im riding in a 88yj. i beat that pig down everyday! maybe thats why its sitting in my garage with no drivetrain as we speak.

Peryn 08-16-2004 06:52 PM

Does that driveshaft go into teh top of the diff at a 90 degree angle or is it just how im seeing things? and if it does, what does it use for a u-joint to work at those angles?

In Canada if a vehicle is over 20 years old it is exempt from emitions...so thats why every car over 20 here has straight pipes on them :D

What you're probably looking at is the stabilization arms. You can't see the driveshafts too well in any of those shots. Hereres a couple showing the bottom more clearly.

Very cool setup. a lot of intriguing features. 2 motors? How does that work? Is low speed/ high speed or something? Work in tandem for double power?

Either way, how do they connect to the ESC? do you have the same signal going to both of them, or does your speed controller have connections for 2 motors?

The 2 motors each have their own pinion gears that work together to turn 1 larger spur gear. The gearbox is only a 1 speed, but your acceleration and speed can be adjusted with the ESC of course. The ESC (Novak Super Rooster) only has 1 motor output, but is designed to run 2 motors wired either in parallel or series. I read wiring them parallel would give more torque so thats what I use. Two motors of course requires twice as much power, cutting battery run time in half. If I push full throttle the entire time, it runs about for 7 or 8 minutes, if even that. If i'm crawling or just keeping in lower speeds, I can get about 15-20 minutes or more out of a single 2000 mAh battery. The top speed isn't much, maybe about 10 mph or so. It's definitly designed more for crawling and rough terrain offroading than speed and racing.
Edit: I was just outside with it doing some crawling and the battery lasted a good half hour.

hossified 08-19-2004 07:22 AM

def. into jeeping here....go wheeling at least once a week. Very expensive hobby though....not only are parts to modify expenzive.....but so are repairs! I got a lifted TJ with a few mods

Confederate 08-19-2004 08:50 AM

I've got 2 Jeeps, a 1980 CJ-7, and a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4x4, the Cherokee was my first vehicle, is only saw dirt roads never any hardcore offroading, and the CJ is a restoration project with me and my dad

Delvid 08-20-2004 11:57 AM

Just brought home a 2004 Liberty. Got to make a few more payments before I beat it up. Love it though.

ZenMasterJG 08-21-2004 04:20 PM

I love me my '97 Jeep Wrangler. I havent done any serious rockcrawling yet, as all my wrench-time at the moment is to keep it on the road!
Soon there will be the big tires and cool suspension, but alas, not yet.

maverick750 09-02-2004 05:33 PM

ive got a 72 cj-5 that i wheel at least once a month. Its hard to get out any more cuz, like someone already posted repair are expensive

Don't really care for "rockcrawling" (maybe because there nothing around here), but I do like riding 3 & 4 rated trails and getting alittle muddy. :D

jasfro 09-02-2004 08:36 PM

I do alittle RC rock crawling - T- Maxx style :)

herostar 09-03-2004 07:09 AM

I've got a 96 XJ with a 6" lift and 33's... lots of other stuff too... I love wheeling that thing. You all should come up to south dakota for the dakota challenge jeep rally... it's a rock'n good time. We've got probably 30-40 rated FREE trails up here, about 3/5 of which you'll need at least 33's, and probably a winch....

THGL 09-03-2004 11:30 AM

Here WAS my TJ, but needed to trade it in when the 1st baby came along. :(

<fingers crossed>One of these days, I'll get another one.</fingers crossed>

Big Cholla 09-12-2004 06:43 PM

I have had two YJs all lifted and modified to the hilt. It averaged about $5000 in parts for each one. I did all the work myself. I now drive on desert patrol every workday a Jeep XJ 2000 Sport. It is Pro Comp lifted, big BF Goodrich tires, transfer case modification, CV Joint driveshaft, custom bumpers, K&N Air filter and intake, locking differentials and Optima battery. I plan to install a roof Safari Rack with hi-lift jack, shovel mounts and driving lights.

jeepcj6 09-15-2004 02:02 AM

I am living in South Africa bussy rebuilding a ex army cj6 would love some pics of jeeps in camo paint jobs and tips

BigPoppaG 09-15-2004 10:38 AM

I got a question. Those DAMN fender flares all seem to fade. Is there a way to get them back in black without having to buy new ones. It seems everyone who ownes a jeep is having this problem but chrysler said it isn't a manufacturers issue......lookslike it to me.

THGL 09-15-2004 12:50 PM

A lot of people on Jeep forums swear that a heat gun (used properly) will bring the black back out of your flares. I've seen before/after photos and it seems to work nicely. Search the forums at jeepsunlimited.com and you'll find the info.
