Toyota trucks
I am looking at getting a truck and I really like the look of some of the older toyotas (around 1990). Any experiance with there? How easy are they to work on? Do parts cost alot? Ive read a bit and it seems like they get decent gas mileage and being toyotas I would assume they might last awhile.

I've had an 88, 90 and 98 all 4wd and never had a problem out of any of them. All but the 98 were 4cyl and got great gas mileage. The 6cyl wasn't bad on gas either. The 90 had 135,000 miles on it when I sold it and other than oil changes, ect... all I ever did to it was brakes, tires, u-joints and a clutch. I did everything to it myself so it wasn't bad to work on. Great trucks in my opinion.

If yopu find a V6 of the models years you are looking at make sure it has had head gasket work done. There was a big recal because they were blowing them on a regluar basis. The 22RE 4 cyclinder is a good reliable motor not as much grunt as the 3.0 liter V6 but with a standard tranny it feels really soild. My Dad has a 94 4Runner with the V6 runs strong but I would definitely want the standard (which he has). I understand from other the the automatics are just a little don't feel as peppy. Right now I have an 82 with a 180000 on the original drivtrain a very little mods they are strong trucks. Good luck.
