Newer cars

Is it me or do the newer cars, with a few exceptions, just keep getting uglier and uglier? I'd like to hear your opinions on it.

A lot do. Just to name a few, not all are ugly, but they're not as good as they used to be:
compare third gen. 'Vette vs. 6th gen. prototype
Pontiac Aztek
Late model F-bodies vs. mid 80's (3rd gen. Camaro especially)
BMW 5-Series and 7-Series
Suzuki Aerio
New GTO vs. Old GTO (not ugly, but not as nice looking)
Pontiac Aztek (one mention on the ugly list isn't enough)

however:
Subaru WRX
New Honda Accord V6 (I know it's practically the Prelude, but still)
BMW Z3, M3 Coupe

and don't forget the pontiac aztec, hopefully someone lost their job for putting that thing on the road.

as for most newer cars being uglier, i don't think so, there are a lot of nice designs. its just that the really bad ones stick out more than the nice ones. if i were to make a generalization i'd say that gm is the worst recently for its new designs, not that they have sole possesion of the ugly stick, but they tend to use it more than other manufacturers.

i think nissan has done a great job with its new lineup. i'd love to have a 2004 maxima.

as mrselfdestruct said, let's not forget to mention the aztez, it is just wrong.

Alot of new cars are ugly...like all said aztek..the sunfire and new grand prix and also the cavalier are getting really ugly. The biggest problem I have with new cars is some of the engine compartment designs they are making. Which makes something that used to take 15 minutes take 1 hours to work on. And yes some engineers/designers should be shot.

which forces you to take the car to the dealer and pay dealer prices for repairs because most everyday mechanics don't wanna waste their time ripping off some plastic cover just to get to your sparkplugs.

i think some cars are continually improving while others are just dying a slow painful death... the new honda element would've been massive ten years ago when range rovers were just getting into style... now it's just another automaker's desparate stab at pulling some of the suv market their way. that is normally the case with cars that looked good on paper and flopped off the assembly line.

Personally, I think the BMW 745il is one of the prettiest cars ever. It drives like a sports car, but the reliability is horrible.

The only semi-decent looking new GM's are all concept cars, and they never go through with it. Brilliant move on their behalf too, getting rid of all the two doors (esp. the GTP). Personally, I think the next gen GP looks pretty nice, but the vast majority of it is crap. Sad to say, Ford is one of the few on the right track. Look at where they're going with the next gen Mustang. Nissans aside, the only other things cars from across the pool I think are looking better is, well, the Z4, and thats about it.

Ah well, its reasons like this I don't own anything newer than 23 years old. When's the last time you could sit in the engine bay of a civic with the motor in there while working on it?

There's alot of new concepts that are umm suck-ass..but I like what ford is doing with the mustang. The new chassis and body style is awesome IMO. The new lightning is gonna be wicked fast. Chevy needs to take lessons on how to do things. They wouldn't be in the spot they are in if they weren't so crazy. The camero of the '94+ generation sucked. Guess we don't have to worry about them anymore heh. I think they'll come back out with the camero as a special edition or something in a few years..hopefully it will be well designed and actually have some legroom and some horses under the hood.

a trend that i am noticing that i do not like is the appearance of plastic paneling on cars, such as on the honda element and a little bit on the new toyota 4runner and some on the chevy avalanche. it just looks so cheap, low quality.

the old 7 series performs just as well but is a lot better in every other aspect. The new 7 is also priced a lot cheaper, so BMW is trying to make it more affordable to buyers.
