Honda Accord

Anybody here own the '03 or '04 Honda Accord with the V6 engine? I drove one this weekend and was quite impressed but I'm curious to hear the overall impression from folks who've owned the car for sometime now.

Thanks for the input. This car shopping stuff gets more and more confusing as all the manufacturers make better cars.

UPDATE ON 9/23/03: I just turned in a '00 Lexus RX300 lease (will never lease again!) for a fully loaded '04 V6 EX in Graphite with every option except navigation (couldn't justify the 2k upcharge). I LOVE this car. The 240 hp 24 valve engine is superb and hauls this baby to 60 mph in a hurry with a great growl. Interior quality almost comparable with the Passat but you get 50 more horses. Remembering that it's still considered a family sedan, it handles beautfully and can be driven moderately agressively with great fun. I bought it from a car broker for 24k plus tax. He bought it from a dealer in Brooklyn. That saved me nearly a grand over the best price I could buy it for. It stickers at $26,500. This may be the best made automobile I've bought and may be even better made than the Lexus was. It's really THAT good.

Hondas blow? Hah. They are the best cars you can buy.

Hondas will last you forever and a day... i haven't messed with the new models but my 02 accord is the fourth accord in my family for a reason. The new sedan designs aren't very spectacular, but the coupe does look all right.

I would say it's definately worth the money.

They are nice cars, but not my style. The best thing you can do is drive them. Since you seem to like them, try these cars:
Honda Accord V6
Nissan Altime 3.5 SE
Toyota Camry V6
Dodge Stratus R/T
Mazda 6

If you want sportier:
Neon SRT-4
Subaru WRX

The only Honda I really dislike is the civic. Its so played out..around where i live anyway. But I only dislike it because all these kids buy them and put noise-makers on them and think they are cool. Too many people watching fast and the furious.. =P

I'm sure they are nice cars though=P I know a lot of people with accords and they are very happy with them.. if its what your lookin for I agree they are worth your money.

I also agree with Halx. Honda Accords are GREAT cars. Hey they aren't the top or second-best selling cars because they suck. They're popular (# of units sold) because they are dependable and reliable.

Hondas are great - reliable, with superb control.

Try Acura, too. They're owned by Honda and specialize in slightly more upscale cars. My current fetish car is an Acura RSX - so hot.

I've got an '03 that I've put 10k on so far. Excellent vehicle. This is my second Accord, the first with a V6. Excellent pick up and it even has a decent little growl as you accelerate.

jeez... I've not really checked the threads out in Motors lately, and I can't believe people still do this crap.

I guess when you order your food from some restaurant and the waiter gives you something you don't want or didn't order it's tht it's fine.

Duuuuuuuude, not that big a deal. We all know that import engines will last forever if taken care of, as will a common domestic motor like a chevy 350. What is amazing is how much more high tech the little imports are, I mean, they were putting dual overhead cams and multiple valves per cylinder in their cars lightyears before the big three were. I'm not a big fan of a small lightweight car with a tiny engine, even though it might be quick, but it is interesting to note that even the big displacement domestic motors are moving towards much more complicated engine designs. The 4.6/5.4 Ford motors that replaced the venerable 302 and 351 are both DOHC designs, and utilize 4 valves per cylinder, and the Chevy LS1 based engines 4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0 do nearly the same. Of course I'll always love my trusty 350, and you can generate an amazing amount of normally aspirated power with one, you aren't going to win any fuel economy awards with it either Turbo 4cyl is becoming standard for performance imports, while a N/A v8 is still the standard for performance domestics... just imagine what would happen if we started seeing turbo or even twin turbo v8's come from the factory... I can smell the tire smoke from here

Umm...no. The 4.6/5.4 in the F-Series is SOHC, and the 5.4 is 3 valves per cylinder. I think the 4.6 is still 2 valves per cylinder. GM doesn't put multi-valve, multi-cam engines in their trucks. Yeah the TrailBlazer is a I-6 4 valve DOHC motor, but the 4.8/5.3/6.0/8.1 truck engines are still 2v/OHV. The LS1 and LS6 5.7 Liter engines are also 2v/OHV. And make 400hp. And get 30+ mpg. Now, THAT, my friends, is an economy car.

The SVT 4.6 is DOHC, but the standard is SOHC.

Yeah...I was referring to the trucks, specifically, and even the Crown Vic and Mustang GT, but yes, you are correct that the SVT motors 4.6 & 5.4 are 4v/DOHC.

Cobra engines are SVT.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I've always been a fan of Domestic cars, but I love the looks of the new Accord. The performance is good, and you won't be filling up the tank every three days like some cars. I've hard nothing but good things from owners.

To me the Accord just isn't that appealing. Sounds like a great car, but it doesn't make me go "wow" or have any feelings. I just see one go by and continue with my life.

Yeah I know, and it's about damn time we got it! As to why. . well we always get the tamer vehicles. The rest of the world gets the WRX forever, and when we FINALLY get it, it's got the lower rated engine. We never got the Silva even though we got it's wimpy little brother the 240SX. We never got the Skyline except for used vehicles that we have to pay higher-than-new prices for. The top civic/CRX over here had 108hp. The top civic/CRX in Japan had 165hp with VTEC. The BMW M3 is toned down for the US. Hell even American built cars are cooler in other countries. We're finally about to get the Holden Monaro (disguised as a pontiac if I recall), but Australia has had it for a long time. For some reason, people don't think Americans like to drive fast.

Actually, Japan's current Skyline is exactly the G35 coupe, save badges etc.
There is no current R-34 IIRC.

Oh yeah, jhericurl, those are some nasty looking accords. The huge body kit makes the first one look like a freakin toy, especially with those tiny looking wheels. The second one isn't bad except for the two watermellon shooters.

Took the words right out of my mouth

What happens when a Corvette uses DOHC and multi-vaves-per-cylinder?

The all aluminum designed V8 engine with 4-cams and 32-valves producing 405 hp @ 5,800 rpm and 385 ft lbs @ 4,800 rpm with a redline of 7200 rpm.

Top speed of 180+mph.

And that was back in 1990.

Corvette ZR1, baby! hehe

And lets take a look at that Trailblazer I-6....DOHC multi-valve-per-cly-engine....275 hp. From a 6-cyl.

Hondas are well built, but ANYTHING will last you forever if you take care of it.

Make mine American

We do nothing but the standard maintenance on our Hondas, and even missed a few times (okay, more than a few), and the commute car is closing in on 200K over 11 years with a trouble-free engine and drive train. They're not the prettiest and they're not the fastest and they're not the toughest, but give them half a chance and they'll run forever.
