Car Names that Suck

Just a few ...

Chevy Nova- No va means 'no go' in spanish .

Ford Focus. Focus on what ? It's utter fugliness ?

Ass-tek ... oops, they actually named it ' Aztek 'but c'mon. They must have realized the similarity would become apparent and come to mind immediately upon seeing the thing.Who spiked the crack-pipe with formaldehyde that day?

Oh, and the Yugo .

What car/truck names bite it , in your opinion ?

I don't like any of the names that Kia has come up with.

Volkswagon Touareg.

Supposedly named for a tribal people from west Africa. The word "tuareg" is Arabic, meaning "abandoned by the gods."

Nice name for a car.

The name Kia sucks in itself, Daewoo and Ford's 'Focus' suck as well.

Mitsubishi's Carisma - the name fits the car like an extremely poor-fitting glove. On the wrong hand.

The Chevy Nova thing is an urban legend, I'm just too damn lazy to move my hand to the mouse and pull up Snopes.

Kia Sephia - Don't make the names rhyme, it's just lame.
Kia Sportage - Reminds me too much of "Shrinkage" and that's not a fun thought.

I want to splice some Mazda nameplates sometime and see how long it takes a friend to realize he's driving the new and more evil than ever before Mazda 666

The original Volkswagen was never called "The Bug" or "The Beetle". It was simply the Type I 1600. It wasn't until 1998 when VW took a dump and called it "The New Beetle" that it's official name was anything of an insect.

Oh, and the Nova "it doesn't go" thing is an urban legend. It would be just as akward to say "it doesn't go" in Spanish as it is in English. And the Nova actually sold very well in Mexico.

AMC Gremlin -- a gremlin a sort of demon, but is also an old aviator's term for a troublesome mechanical foulup -- who'd name a car after that?

Fun fact: for reasons entirely innocent, I once had a meet with Anton LaVey, founder of the latter day Church of Satan. And he arrived in -- you guessed it -- a Gremlin.

When I was down in Costa Rica, I saw a monster Hyundai SUV that they don't market in the states, called The Galloper. I though that name pretty much sucked.

Haha, well, technically, they did "prelude" to something. The s2000! The prelude was discontinued shortly after the release of that 240 hp rear wheel 4 cylinder spyder.

I believe that Boxster is a combination of roadster and boxer (in reference to its boxer engine). And I'm not sure that I'd consider the Porsche Boxster a 'square' car.

I hate all the SUV names, explorer, expedition... they all seem to incite this aura of "look at me, I'm on a great adventure" but you're not. Most are going to the office and soccer practice.

They should name them what they are. "Cock enhancer", "mom cab w/ balls", "my other auto is a minivan".

seriously

I've always thought the names escape, explorer, expedition, and excursion went with the wrong vehicle. Escape makes me think of an escape pod -small, I can buy that. But I think of an excursion as a little side trip that is far less of a big deal than a whole expedition to go somewhere.

Another car name observation:
BMW 3 series -about $30K
5 series -50K
7 series 70K about
couldn't they come up with something better?

Also, I miss the Integra, Legend and Vigor. Much better than 3.2TL, etc...

I also think the Toyota Tundra is a stupid name. Tundra is a treeless frozen wasteland in the winter, a mucky swamp in the summer with swarms of biting insects that could kill a naked man in 30 minutes or less. So just how does this equate with a pleasurable driving experience. Man, how 'bout the Toyota Wasteland? The Toyota Quicksand? The Toyota Sinkhole?

Made by Subaru. F'ing deathmobile for rear passengers. Had those two plastic seats with hand grips facing backwards in the bed.

Always thought the Dodge Avenger had a dopey name. Avenge what? And must you wear a bowler and carry a brolly to drive it?

The Mitsi Starrion was a piss weak attempt to cash in on car names such as the all american musclecar the MUSTANG . . unfortunately the asians (no disrespect intended) had problems vocalising Stallion and the name became Starrion before it was released . . . these were quite common two door turbo's in OZ in the mid to late 80's

I had one of these in the mid 80's. Frickin' pocket rocket. Smokin' fast. Never knew or even thought of the Starion/Stallion name thing.
