Porsche 911
I just bought a Porsche 911 - a 1999, 996. The absolute best overall performance car I have driven. I sold a 1997 BMW M3, that car was excellent also but not as good as the 911. I was not able to find a new M3 to test drive, does anyone have one, or has driven one?

Nice car! I've not driven an M3, but I'd bet it's nothing compared to the 996. An M5, on the other hand.... Don't forget to "flash" your lights (or wave) to the other P-cars you see. It's a tradition, especially among the older p-car crowd (older cars, not older drivers). I've got a 928....hence my user name! Have you tried any of the Porsche web forums? |
Man. I would like BOTH your cars. But my little 924 is still fun to drive. One day I hope to own a 928 s4.
|
wow...great choice...my friend let me test drive his '02 M3...its amazing...probably not as great as a Porsche...but I also hope to own a Porsche sometime in the distant future.

Lovely!

it depends really on what 911 you wish to buy. An 2001+ M3 in my opinion is the closest you can get to owning a track car for under £50k, but if you have the money shell out on a porshe. May I suggest the Porshe 911 Turbo at ONLY £90 odd grand.

OMG I HATE U ALLLLLLLLLLLL
i hate my car with a passion and i refuse to revel the disturbing truth about my beater.....i mean awsome car |
very nice looking porsche ive always liked those porsches......
/me wipes drool from chin... |
Drool, eh?
Here's a recent 928 get together (yeah, yeah, there was one 911 there, too). These cars don't come without some effort. After all, mine is 18 years old and requires some TLC to keep at peak performance. I do all the work myself, since giving a mechanic $100+ per hour isn't my idea of a good habit. http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/0168.JPG |
how fast do those things actually go?
|
*envy* Owning a 911 is one of my long-term goals.
|
BUT ITS A WATER PUMPER! :(
|
My '85 is supposed to be able to hit 155mph, and '87 and up can exceed 170 mph.
So what if it's a water pumper? All Porsches have been since the mid-90's. If you're saying that only an air-cooled, rear-engined, flat-6 is a true Porsche, I guess I lose again because I've got an 8 cylinder 5 liter engine (as opposed to the 3.3 liter cylinder that was standard in 1985 for the 911). There's no replacement for displacement! The 928 was intended to replace the 911, but the 911 crowd rejected it because of these differences. The 928 always cost more than the 911 when new. They're both great cars. No one else has to like mine but me. |
Beutiful shots.

*With the exception of American cars, most Japanese cars, and a lotta German cars (:D I'm a hypocrite, what can I say) The real deal should be hey, the car got across the line FASTER than the other car. I don't care if the new Benz E55 has a supercharger, the BMW MPower E60 probably won't and just might be slower (might?) but you better not complain to my ass saying my ride isn't faster even though I beat you in a straight line just because I have a s/c. Sorry for my small short rant, it's just i'm young and full of anger :p Please correct if i'm wrong. |
It was not ment as a bash or anything, it was a complete joke actually. I do a lot of Vintage racing and the guys that run the 928, 968 etc cars get soo much crap from the old 911 guys becusae they are so anti water-pumper.
I prefer to look at things from a performance standpoint, liquid cooling is a good thing :) The P-car history is a long one and I wish I knew more about it. I biggest demise for the 928 was the fact that the customers didn't like the fact that it was front engine since the 911 had been mid engine since its creation. I don't think that the fact it was liquid cooled had too much to do with it, but I could be wrong about that. I want to apologize if anyone took my comment the wrong way. |
I love that picture. I was thinking of getting a 944 in a couple years, then maybe one day (in the far future) a 911. Beautiful cars. And I really love how the car itself hasn't strayed away from its roots.

If you guys want more pictures, let me know. I've been having a lot of fun with my digital camera lately.
|
Definately, the more the better.
|
My dad has a 928, :D
Guess who is line for inheritance! Yay baby yay! |
|
Hell yeah shark, where did you find those?
|
i like the newer 928... the 968... very nice and beautiful car
|
Since Porsche first produced the 924 in 1977 they have had a long run of front engine vehicles. I don't get why any 911 owner would try and give guff to an front engine porsche owner, they are both well crafted and designed cars.
Nice wax job on the 928 Shark. |
Very, very nice looking cars. Truth be told, I've never seen a Porsche in real life. How pathetic is that? Congrats on the great find.
On a slightly related note, what is the absolutely correct way to pronounce Porsche? |
Atomic Pinkie:
The pictures with all the 928s I took myself. We had a picnic for our 928 owners' club last month. NotMinus: Believe it or not, I haven't waxed the car in over a year! That was just after a normal hand wash and dry. drawerfixer: Most Porsche owners will agree that it's pronounced "Porsh-a" but I say it as just "Porsh" since it sounds too stuck-up to say it with two syllables. I'd feel like a jackass trying to correct people, so I don't. I hate those commercials that say "Jag-yoo-ar". It's a Jag-war. |
you guys have some pretty pretty cars
