Help Decoding Engine Stamp for Chevy 350

I just got a 1971 2 door coup Nova with a three speed automatic transmission I was trying to decode the Engine Block stamp located on the front passenger side below the water pump and altinator I found two sets of numbers

18A120581 ( I figured it is a Chevy block made in Atlanta, guessing 1978, no idea on the rest of the vin numbers).

The next series of numbers on the block are 10821DE, I have no idea what they mean

Could you help me decode these numbers?

Hey Thanks guys but after tearing down the engine to install a new manifold and card I discovered that the numbers had been ground and re-stamped, so that would make this a cheater block, I do believe that this block is a 350, the heads have been extensively machined, I don’t believe that people would go to that expense for a 307.

ngdawg---that link is for vin decoding, JB is looking for engine stamping info. DE is the important info that a dealer can help you with. Make nice with the parts guys at a long standing chev dealer and see if they can look in the 71-75 parts catalog for chev cars. Paper catalog is easier, that why I say an older store, the paper catalog was last printed in '83. Anything newer would have 3 letters, and trucks usually begin with "T".

It's a little late but you should be able to find what you need at:

www.mortec.com

If the numbers you're looking at on the front of the block are stamped into the block I'm almost sure it's the assembly date and part of the vin.

The block casting number and casting date is usually on the driver side rear of the block. And it's a raised cast into the block number.
