What is the fugliest car built in your lifetime?
Off the top of my head it's got to be the Pontiac Aztek.
It made me believe that Pontiac had to be full of "yes men" for a monstrosity like this to make production. comments excerpted from the cartalk website: The Plaztek has to be the ugliest hunk of polystyrene ever molded. — Jeff Let's face it, not every engineering student gets an "A". The "D" students need work also. — Bob One of our neighbors has a green one which we call the "toadmobile," which, come to think of it, is an insult to toads. —Richard The back end looks like it was stretched up too high, kind of like when an elderly person hikes their pants up to their chin. — Eric That didn't just get hit with an ugly stick; it came charging out of the ugly forest! — Chris It looks the way Montezuma's revenge feels. — John Looks like it was designed by two separate teams of engineers that started at opposite bumpers and worked their way towards the middle, each unable to talk to the other until they met at the center doorpost. — Nate Was Pontiac taken over by a high school shop class? — Sam It has all the style, grace, and sexiness of an orthopedic shoe. — Byron A horrid assembly of mismatched lines and angles, made even worse by the gray plastic body cladding of the "original edition." — Richard Just screams "committee." — Thomas Look like it has a wedgie. — Lisa Ever seen this car from behind? It's like getting behind a horse that's ready to drop a load. — Susan Looks like it went into the crusher before the showroom! The last step in the production process was being hit with an ugly stick. — Nate It is amazing Pontiac hasn't been sued for accidents caused by drivers spewing coffee over the inside of their windshields when Azteks drive by. — Thomas

I think the new Prius is pretty nasty-looking. It looks like Toyota watched some near-future sci-fi movies and decided they needed to make this high-tech car look like what everyone thinks a FuturCar is supposed to look like.
It's a pretty neat vehicle, actually. But it has the ovoid aerodynamics of a moose turd. Incidentally, when my mother in law was in design school a few years back, she had a project to design the ugliest car she possibly could. A couple years later, the Aztec hit the streets, and she did a massive double-take: that thing has EXACTLY the same front-end she designed, with the double-nostrilled snout and everything. Seriously, nothing says mid-life crisis more than a station wagon that wants to be a muscle car. Come on, if you decided to have kids, you decided to give up cool. Live with it. You can't avoid it. It's just a matter of time before your own children will let you know anyway. Fugly!

Damn, three of the four cars I absolutely hate the look of have already been mentioned (Aztek, Element and xB). So I guess I'll be the first to name
Toyota FJ Cruiser. When I first saw it, I almost crashed because I couldn't believe that something like that could be put on four wheels. To make things worse, one of my co-workers bought it a couple of weeks ago and now I have to look at that yellow ugliness everyday as I pull up into the parking lot.

Lambourghini has always had a unique design sense; especially in the 70's.
I'm borderline about these Espadas: But these 70's Jaramas? Yecch!

Some of my favorite "most uglies" are already mentioned. But one I would put right up there is the early '60's Plymouth Valiant ...not to mention I actually owned a '61 Valiant 4dr just like this:
PS: I feel bad that it was so ugly since the slant-6 motor was almost artistic in it's implementation and reliability. At least I only paid $100 for it and used it for several years. |

Pontiac Grand Am. Quad hood scoops? So much plastic. Look at that nose! Pretending that you are ecologically superior to your neighbors should not mean that you have to drive this turd. Thats right, pinstripes on a truck. Let's pretend that we can make a $20,000 hummer! More plastic! Last edited by willynilly; 07-20-2007 at 10:47 PM.. |

Now if you want an ugly Toyota, it's gotta be the Corolla. If I want to put aftermarket side skirts and bumper on my Corolla, let me make that mistake on my own. Don't put your own fake looking crap on the car before people can buy it. It looks like someone wanted the car to have a custom look, and that person was in heir mid 60s and had no idea what custom body effects should look like. Oy. |

I would have to go with the PT Cruiser. This thing was so fugly I found it offensive. It amazed me that people willingly traded some sort of money for this horrid sight:

Yep they're still ugly as shit to me, fuckin hideous honestly, hate them all. Yes I hate Dodge and Chrysler, no one will ever convince me they're good cars, they don't hold value at all, if you like one now, wait 2 years it'll be dirt cheap.

Them's fighting words, boy! My PT is gorgeous. (that color isn't, tho) Re: Gremlin. They were butt-ugly, but you could get one with a v8 and watch muscle car owners shit their pants as you quietly zoomed by. Damn thing weighed half as much as, say, a 442, so a v8 pulling it..... Aztec gets the medal, though. Or at least shares it with the AMC Matador:

The even refer to it as a device, not a car, a device.

Are you joking? AMC was the beast in the 70's. A Gremlin meant a Pacer was just down the road, and after that? A Javelin!
Please, gentle readers, consider this: And this: Mad Max looked at it at the lot and said, "no effing way."
