I found two small bumps on my penis

As i was masterbating a couple weeks ago, i noticed a small bump on my shaft, underneath the top layer of skin... i didn't think anything of it, and i figured it was just an enflamed blood vessel or something. A few days after, i found another one, a couple inches down. They don't hurt or anything, but the fact that they appeared a few days apart kind of worried me... I can't see them, and i can only feel them with my fingers (and they only seem to show up after i begin to masterbate), so this makes it rather difficult to take to a doctor...

I read some sites and one likely possibility is that they are cysts... does anyone know anything about this? right now i'm just waiting to see what happens.

How old are you and what do they look like.

Also what would help us is to tell us if you have had any kind of sex, yes oral counts and if you use a condom

An ingrown hair sounds plausable, but if you have access to a sexual health clinic or GP, it would remove a lot of doubt...
If it is something bad, the sooner you know about it the better.
And if it's nothing, you've lost nothing, right?

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it but that is just MY opinion. Most bumps are natural on the penis especially if you haven't had sex. But if this really bothers you go see a doctor especially before you ever have sex. (remeber you are just giving us a vague picture online, do NOT take our word as final)

If it is something bad (worst case scenerio) then you dont want to be responcible for transmitting a STD. Just explain that it just came naturally and you havn't been sleeping around

it's not an ingrown hair, by 'under the skin' i mean it's literally under the first layer of skin... without knowing too much about anatomy, i'd have to guess it's either in the layer of veins, or on the erectile tissue.

i know that the final say should be from a doctor, but like i said, at the present state it's a little bit difficult to present my case to a doctor to get a real, useful answer..

EDIT- LINKS NSFW AND MEANT FOR HEALTH AND INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY

Well okay I want to help you out. I wouldn't worry about ANY STD's. If you want to make sure here is a very graphic web site you can compare to.

http://www.thebody.com/sowadsky/symptoms/symptoms.html

And here is something else on herpies since pictures might look like just regular bumps

http://www.herpes.com/Symptoms.shtml < notice that it talks about popped sores and burning in the area which sounds like symptoms you dont have.

SO long story short here is a final web site you shoudl look at

http://www.studenthealth.co.uk/leafl...enitalSkin.htm

Pearly Penile Papules and Sebaceous Prominence might look like STDs but are normal in many men. And since you have never had sex yet (poor guy) chances are its one or the other.

And if you are still concered or its not getting better, try to go se your doctor or go to a free clinic where they can test you for these things in which anomintiy is a high priority.

There is also something called Peyronie's discease, which is plaque on the chambers that create an errection. Here's a link:

http://www.urologychannel.com/peyronies/index.shtml

Peyronie’s disease is characterized by the formation of hardened tissue (fibrosis) in the penis that causes pain, curvature, and distortion, usually during erection. The penis is the male organ for reproduction and urination. It is composed of two columns of erectile tissue (the corpora cavernosa); the corpus spongiosum, which contains the tube that carries urine and semen from the body (urethra); and the sheath that surrounds the erectile tissue (tunica albuginea). In Peyronie’s disease, dense, fibrous scar tissue (plaque) forms in the tunica albuginea.

Incidence and Prevalence
According to a report published in 1995 by the National Institutes of Health, Peyronie’s disease occurs in about 1% of men. It is most common between the ages of 45 and 60, but it also occurs in young and elderly men. Prevalence may be higher because of reluctance to seek medical attention for the condition and failure to report in cases with mild symptoms.

Causes and Risk Factors

The cause of Peyronie’s disease is unknown. Cases that develop suddenly are often caused by trauma to the penis (e.g., invasive penile procedure, injury, extremely vigorous sexual activity). Invasive penile procedures include urethral catheterization, cystoscopy, and transurethral prostatectomy.

Cases of Peyronie’s that develop over time may be caused by an inherited abnormality of human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27), suggesting a genetic link. Also, Peyronie’s occurs more frequently in men with family members who have the condition or a connective tissue disorder (e.g., systemic lupus erythematosus). About 30% of patients with Peyronie’s disease also develop hardened tissue in other parts of the body, such as the hand (e.g., Dupuytren’s contracture) or the foot.

Microscopic examination of hardened tissue in cases of Peyronie’s disease is consistent with cases of severe inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis), suggesting the condition may have a vascular (i.e., pertaining to blood vessels) cause. Diabetes, which often leads to blood vessel disease, is also considered a risk factor.

The use of the antihypertension medication propranolol (Inderal®) has been found to cause the condition in rare cases. Peyronie’s disease has also been associated with vitamin E deficiency.

Signs and Symptoms

Peyronie’s disease may be mild or severe, and may develop rapidly or over time. Symptoms include the following:

Hardened tissue (plaque) in the penis
Pain during erection
Curve in the penis during erection
Distortion of the penis (e.g., indentation, shortening)
Plaque usually develops on the top of the shaft, causing the penis to bend upward during erection, but it may occur on the bottom, causing a downward bend. If plaque develops on the top and the bottom, indentations and shortening may occur. In about 13% of cases, plaque does not cause severe pain or curvature, and the condition resolves on its own.
In severe cases, pain and curvature result in erectile dysfunction (impotence). If there are several areas of plaque, incomplete erection may occur.

Might be a good idea to see a urologist now since there are a few things they can do if it is cught early on.

Peyronie's discease plaques are generally much larger than a pinhead IIRC. I wouldn't be to concerned with that, especially since you are only 19 and there's no pain and no distortion on erection.

Odds are the bumps are absolutely nothing, could be something as simple as an inflamed sebaceous gland under the skin. On that note, how often would you say you masturbate?

Perhaps larger but they don't start that way. It's just another reason to go see a Dr. Advice from people like us on line is never a substitute for a medical opinion.

Vitamin: once daily, sometime twice. (i've basically stopped for now though)

thingstodo: i know it's not a substitute, but i've seen doctors make mistakes in diagnosis as well, when i was little and i was suffering from whooping cough, chronic coughing until i start to choke on the floor type stuff for 2 months, my doctor tried to tell me it was a cold.

I would tend to agree. No matter how much training any of us have, it's generally pretty hard to get a real feel for what's going on with you without being seen in person.

And on the plaqes, he said he noticed them a couple weeks ago, so they should have grown or devloped into the full sized plaques by now, and he'd be having pain and curving.

On the frequency, it could be something related to that as well, perhaps try cutting back a little bit, but it's good you're taking a break so to speak to see if things improve.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Actually I am aware of the condition from a personal standpoint. Mine progressed very slowly and apparently was the result of being a little wild in the sack.

I read your link on peyronie's disease, i don't think it's that, although i'm sorry to hear you have it. The bumps didn't hurt at all when i probed and meaded them to see what they were like.

Although that's reassuring, i think i am going to have to get this checked out after all, i noticed an area of mild redness and a sort of scarlike red bump (not very defined) on the head of my penis today. It doesn't look like herpes though becaues it's not a pustule and does not cause me any discomfort.

I think it might just be a bacterial infection that is working its course or something, but at least i don't have to ask a doctor to feel my erection for bumps now

The thing about STD's like herpes is the s. You can't get them very easily without having sex. Mind you, oral sex counts for that (some people will have oral sex and still think of themselves as a virgin, I dunno if you do) but even then it's harder to get herpes from a blow job. It can happen, but I'm leaning away from that.

I'm with whoever said it's probably just an inflamed gland or something of that nature, but it doesn't hurt to get it double checked. It's embarrasing for you to have to whip it out in the doctor's office, but these people are professionals. This is what they're there for.

Think of them as pleasure studs. Chances are there is nothing to worry about, but if you want to be doubly sure, checking with a doc won't hurt much aside from perhaps one's pride.

Hey, when I first had a problem you still had to get a referal from your primary physician for a specialist like a urologist. My Dr. was a chick about my age. When I told her she said let's take a look if I'm going to give you a referal. That's the only time I didn't stand tall when a chick was holding me!! To top it off, she said since I had my pants down she was going to check my prostate. What a day.

well, i developed a rashlike red area on the tip and i'm starting to feel a light burning when i urinate, so that makes it a bit easier to go to the doctor with.

---

i visited my physician today. she reassured me that it seemed to be just an allergic reaction to something, which is comforting, but at the same time i don't see how the bumps which appeared so long ago could be linked with the rash... She gave me some cream to try, Cortisol, and said to come back in a week. Looks like we'll see what happens. and thanks again to all of you who replied
