How do I heal faster?
Over the past few years (I'm 23 atm) I've noticed a definite increase in both my recovery time from strenuous activity as well as taking longer to heal i.e. small cuts and bruises that used to take 2 or 3 days to heal up now easily take a week or more.
I realise that as one becomes older these things happen - the rate at which we regenerate anything slows down with age. I'm just a bit worried that my body's going off the deep end a tad early So i was wondering: Are there any supplements or vitamins or herbal products that one can take to remedy this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx |

How's your nutrition? Is it complete? Diet? Is it balanced? Are you exercising too? As we get older, we all need to make adjustments and adapt.
If you are taking longer to heal from cuts etc, it could be a white blood cell problem, low vitamin C, etc. Maybe you can take a mutli-vitamin supplement like Centrum or a generic. Just remember, it's a supplement. If it's an immunity thing, maybe you can check out ethinacea root? I'm not a doctor or nurtritionist by the way. |

My nutrition and diet are "ok" and it is definitely balanced enough. I work out in the gym 2-3 times a week and play basketball twice a week as well. I'm going to the chemist today to pick up a bottle of Centrum to try out for the month so I'll see how that goes.
At the moment I'm also looking for a good supplement stack for both before and after my gym workouts (I'm looking to bulk up and lose body fat simulataneously) - any help here would be appreciated. |

Try a multi-vitamin and vitamin C tablet.
Do you rest enough between your physical exercise? All the repairing the body has to do for working out can often slow down the repair of other minor things. Sleep is very important to those who exercise regularly. Do you use whey protein already before going to the gym? If not i'd suggest that. If your already using whey protein, try creatine. I believe theres several threads in the H&F giving loads of details about it.

+1 recommendation for vitamin C, perhaps some vitamin e as well.
or, even better, a multi with good amounts of both.

I've been taking Twinlab's Dual Tabs multivitamins for several years and haven't been ill since. They absorb well and have a good mix.

Oxygen in the body is crucial to healing. My grandmother had a lot of scar tissue in her lungs and wasn't breathing well. She had fallen and scraped her shin. It took a YEAR for it to heal. What finally healed it was when the Dr's finally put her on oxygen. Then it healed within weeks. Until she got sufficient oxygen it simply festered and oozed. When she was started on the oxygen it closed up within days.
I would suggest aerobic exercises, breathing exercises such as yoga, and just conciously watching how you are breathing during the day. Often as we get older, because of tension and simply because we just don't think about it much we don't breath as deeply. Good Luck.

My wife and I are 10 years apart but I recover from bodily fatigue much quicker than her. She doesn't play any sport and I have played sports since age 8. I think life style has a lot to do with it. My relatives just visited my sister in San Diego, they pretty much emptied out the vitamin isles at Costco. Vitamins are "supplements", main thing is a active, life style, IMO.
