Does this come off as being gay?
I moved to Austin a couple weeks ago, and have been really busy, so I haven't had a chance to get out. I figured, what the hell, I'll throw a message on Craigslist under "strictly platonic" and see what comes of it. That was yesterday morning. I woke up today to find 27 messages in my email all involving whether I was a "top" or a "bottom" and how good I was at sucking dick.

Maybe you just seem so cool, guys wants to hit on ya? :)
Or maybe it's because you put it under "friends" . . . ? hmmmmmmmm, doesn't send off those "i'm gay" vibes to me and i would know . . . so hmmmmmm, Don't know... *shrug Sweetpea |
Wow...27?!?
Doesn't strike me as particularly gay...maybe it got temporarily misposted, or perhaps you just got spammed? |
Sounds like a nice guy to me...someone I would like to hang with. Not gay at all.
|
I think you have fallen victim to personal ad syndrome... any woman who has ever placed a personal ad has generally fallen victim to it...
Where they will get responses from people who clearly have reading comprehension problems and never read the ad... You didn't state in the first sentence that you were a male looking for a female... so therefore the rest of the ad got ignored... doesn't matter if it was in platonic or not because people don't always read the details. Wasn't gay sounding at all -- you didn't say you were not looking for sex so the assumption is that you were... doesn't matter if it was inplatonic or not - you're a guy - of course you were looking for sex :) |
I was going to say something just like Maleficent... I was just imagining what would have happened if a woman posted something like this... She probably would have recieved more than 27 but they would have been very similar...
Women are less likely to respond to this, especially if you don't say you are looking for a woman.... By the way... I read you ad... how are your skills at sucking cock? |
Dunno about that, never had the inclination to try! :p
I got one response that was fairly decent, so I'm gonna go try and have some fun tonite. |

cool. have a good time!! :) Sweetpea |
Tonite was awesome! Good food, great live band, had a blast!
I now know why they call Austin the live music capital of the world! |

Good to see it worked out for ya... Were you top or bottom? :) |
I went with a girl, thank you very much! But I do prefer to be on the bottom with a woman, it leaves my hands free to roam!

The law of large numbers states that even with a small percentage chance of an event happening -if you just have enough tries -the event will eventually happen.
So translated into the world of gay sex -the event is having your dick sucked by the 'nice guy' who just moved to the area. They just have to keep asking until their fantasy comes true. Now if only women were that easy. |
Please forgive me for saying, but it IS Craigslist. Not exactly the creme of society right there. I use Craigslist quite a bit, but take everything with a hefty grain of salt. I posted an ad there for a room for rent specifing we were only looking for roommates close to our own age (18-25, we are both 21), and got at least 10 replies from men in their 40s and 50s who claimed they "looked very young" and that they "wanted to live with a young couple". Creepy.

Hm? I don't have any more of an urge to suck your dick then I did before.

Ever go into a cheap public bathroom to find some of the most disgusting, vile, probably illegal messages and poorly drawn pictures often including gay undertones? Well, Craigslist can be an internet version of that sometimes. That's the way a lot of people are. While I suppose it's possiblee that some of the messages are real, I'd bet most of them are from 16 year olds that don't realize that their homophobia is actually a sign that they'll be dating a guy named Tim someday. Take it in stride and know that it was not your message.
Oh, and next time next time say "I'm looking for a woman...". |
I basically did the same thing, but didn't get near the responses you did (and not any that were too creepy.. just a few)..
granted, the only differences between our two adds were: 1. I didn't say I worked out... 2. I mentioned museums... apparently museums are a turn off for gay culture where I am at*grin* I actually ended up with about 4:1 ratio of girls:guys, so I didn't do that bad, but actually the only one I ended up actually hanging out with was one of the guys.. He actually had a decent band playing that he was friends with and I hadn't been drinking in a while so we went.. Had a blast and I plan to go again when the band plays next... I would have to agree though.. craigslist is definatley... well, you get what you pay for ;) |

Irishsean, in reading your ad, it doesn't sound like you're gay at all . . . but you did use the term "laid back guy" ;-)
|
I've always wondered about Craigslist. It did seem like there was always a large group gay people on that site. I have nothing against that; it just caught my attention the one time I looked at it. Anyway I wouldn't be able to make a judgment from your ad if I saw it. I guess it seems like it could go either way.
|
I can't figure a thing you said that indicated anything specific other than having a generally good time. That delete key is a handy thing!!
|
not gay, per se, but it doesn't quite specify exactly what you're looking for. It's vague enough for a gay man to reply, thinking you just gave some ideas for a first date. I'd rework it and be very specific. After all, you wouldn't post a classified ad for a house without giving total detail, and this should be no different.
|
I don't know what people mean when they ask if something "sounds" or "looks" gay... I am just uneducated on the matter.
That's odd, and kind of funny and creepy at the same time, that ad business. |
