plantar fasciitis
Hi, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis a few dyas ago. Anybody ever had it before? any advice? thanks
|
I have it now. It sucks ass!!! The best advice is to wear the most comfortable shoes you can find and try to excercise the tendon as much as possible. Basically do foot lifts on the edge of stairs.
I take it they told you what it was? |
Yeah, I know what it is :( . How long have you had it? This whole 6-18 months recovery time is scaring me... I 've never experienced an injury like that before. It's so dissapointing because I had just reached a new level with my jogging and fitness in December when it happened. I sat on it for 2 months because I don't have health insurance and I figured it could just rest and it would go away like most of my other jogging related soreness, but this started getting worse so I went to see somebody. I've had massage therapy done on it and I sleep with the night splint, but the inactivity has driven me mad so I joined the local rec-center and started swimming daily. UGH! I just want to get back into my routine.
I'll take your advice on the stretching... thanks |
i used to have it pretty badly. the best thing you can do for it is to stretch it out. A physiotherapist would be better for you to see. They will help balance out the muscles and give you some good stretches.
there are some really good stretches here http://www.aafp.org/afp/20010201/467.html Make sure to stretch the rest of your legs too, especially your hamstrings. With jogging problems can often stem from core weakness. So it doesn't hurt to strenghten your core as well. |
Thanks Munchen, I cehecked that site out a few days ago. BTW I've been to Mississauga a few times b/c I have a good buddy from there (fellow Islander fan I met through a Message board and ended up chilling with). Nice town.
Wolf- How long do you do the stretches for? I went for about 10 minutes today. |
SHIT! I had it myself for about 5 or 6 months. I went in & got the shot (watching a six inch needle go in my 3 inch wide foot and not come out the other side still puzzles me). After they picked my ass up off the floor (actually I didn't faint) I went home, used the stretchy-thingamabob they told me to get (looks like a giant ski boot you are supposed to be able to put on while you sleep, yeah right). After not having any luck with that, I finally said screw it & continued to run. I kid you not, one day I woke up & it was gone. Took a while, but it went away after about half a year.
I had a similar experience with tennis elbow, tried all the stuff, quit treating it & it went away. My brother currently has plantar & he has tried everything as well. I was running when I got it, when I finally gave up trying to fix it I went out & bought different shoes & continue to run in pain. Nothing I can think of made it go away, it just happened...wish I could give you a little more hope, but that's my take on the whole thing. it's been five years & haven't gotten it since. |
My running partner had it once, He had a special insole made for his running shoes and he said they help alot with the pain... The insoles were a few hundred bucks and they actually took a mold of his foot and custom made them for him...
