tooth knocked out.

hello,

i'm in a bit of a mess at the moment and am just sort of venting/asking people for any similar experiences/anything really.

last night after drinking copious amounts of alcohol i fell and (as i was that drunk and didnt actually realise i was falling) didnt put my hands out to break my fall. instead, my face did. a bit of superficial damage to my face but the bad thign is my upper front tooth got knocked out snd the other chipped. we put it in milk quite propmptly (prob 2 hours or so after it happened) and today i went to the dentists on an emergency appointment. they have forced it bakc in to the gum and have glued it in place. alot more work needs to be done but thats alll they could do today.

in total my tooth spend about 2 hours not in milk and about 9 hours out ofmy mouth. what do you think the chasnces are that now it is bacm in m mouth that it will reattach to the bone and not get rejected? has anyone had anything similar to this? at the moment i look a wreck and the work to finish it off andmake it look ok wont be done for 6 weeks. not so cool.

anyone have anything to say?

I had my top right front tooth knocked out. Never healed back in so now I have an implant. Implants cost about $2 grand a piece but look and feel like a real tooth. You have to have surgery to have it put in, but what they did was they knocked me out, drilled up into my gum, screwed in this metal piece to the bone, and then they cap it off with the tooth part. Looks good; you can't tell that it's fake at all. Much better than a black dying tooth also.

I knocked my front tooth out when I was 13. Went immediately to ER where they jammed it back in (this is the most painful memory I have in my life). It lasted about 10 years, but then got wobbly. Unfortunately for me, the root stayed implanted but the tooth had resorbed at the gumline. That meant extra surgeries to have my implant done. First we had to drill the root out and do some bone grafting. That took 6 months of waiting, then we began the implant process.

The good news is, all that was over 12 years ago and I have a totally healthy, normal looking front "tooth". It's given me no problems. You do have to be sure to keep it clean, and the dentist will teach you to do that.

If you end up doing an implant, make sure you have a dentist and oral surgeon that you can work well with, and who work well together. You're going to all be tied together in an expensive, time and money consuming process.
