I am gonna try to get into a computer course through the government, Because i am collecting employment insurance the government will pay for my schooling. I just made an appointment to see an advisor on wensday.

I hope this will be a big motivator, I'm thinking it will be..but i'm kinda nervous at the same time. I don't really have any confidence in myself and this is what holds me back from doing alot of things, But i forced myself today to pick up the phone and call HR and they directed me on who to call about getting into a course. I figure you can't lose in taking a computer course because..well, Computers are pretty much the future..everything is gonna be computer related sooner or later.

So on Wensday I have to go to this office and speak with an advisor, I guess about what course i wanna take. The lady who i set the appointment up with told me that, The first 20 minutes is a group orientation or some shit..Then i go one on one with the advisor. She said in total i will be there for about 2 1/2 hours, I am kinda mind boggled on what me and this advisor are gonna be talking about for 2 hours.

But all in all even considering the little bit of nervousness in my stomach, I'm looking forward to getting into a course and meeting new people.

I just wish this was something i did 6 years ago when i was 20, I keep thinking that it's too late for me to be going to school..I know it's never too late, But that's the way i feel.

It's never too late to go to school. Look at it this way: how old will you be in four years if you don't go to school?

i'm in my mid 30's and every other year I toy with going back to school. I don't know why as it won't do much difference in my career per se... but good luck!

I'm 40 yrs old and I am finishing up my CS degree in a few weeks.

Consider this: how old will you be when you finish your degree? Now how old will you be in that same time frame?

See? you'll still get older regardless, and I can tell you from experience that the sense of accomplishment is worth it.

I went to see my advisor and she said that they don't send people on employment benefits to school, So i have to book an appointment at an employment resource centre for career planning and counselling where they will help me make an up to date effective resume, and help me job search, Then this place will book an appointment for me to go to another place that will help me choose a career path.


The orientation that we had before i seen the advisor was your basic, How to search for a job and networking with other people who may be able to get you into thier workplace and blah blah blah. Everybody that was at this meeting was given a sheet for us to keep track of our job search records, If i get a call from the employment office to come in and show this sheet and i have nothing on it..they cut me off..which i don't have a problem with..But, This is kinda fucked up..I'm gonna be going through this course or whatever that's gonna help me choose a path for a career and while i'm doing this i have to be searching for a job..any job, doesn't matter what i apply for as long as i got something to show on my job search records. So if i apply at some shitty place that pays 8 bucks an hour and they wanna hire me..I have to take it or my benefits get cut off, So that will ruin this training that i'm going to be going through that is gonna help me get a steady job rather than finding any job that pops up, which a month after being thier i could be in the same boat as i'm in now. Doesn't make sense to me.

I'm just gonna apply at jobs that recommends a certain amount of expierence, Cause i'm not gonna take any job that pops up and ruin my chance at going through this course that may put me on a path to a better career than bouncing from job to job.
