Friend coming over, need some advice about sleeping arrangements

A good friend of mine is coming up to visit and spending the night this weekend. I'm somewhat worried about how to handle sleeping arrangements. I live in a tiny studio apartment with just my bed and ikea computer desk. I do have a big sleeping bag though. So question is what should I do? Offer him my bed and me sleep on the floor? I don't want to seem like a bad host. What do you guys think?

Personally, I'd offer him my bed, and crash on the floor, but then again, I'm comfortable sleepin anywhere. Will you be a bad host if you don't offer him the bed...nah, but you'll be a good friend if you do.

If all else fails, you could go buy a nice Air Matress...they are pretty nice, and do come in a lot of handy!

I have a tiny studio myself. When guests sleep over, I always offer the bed. More times than not, the guest chooses the sleeping bag on the floor anyways. It's a win-win situation! I think from a psychological standpoint, the guests tend to pick the sleeping bag because it's clean. I'm guessing your bed will not have fresh sheets and bedspread on it.

In the case the guest chooses the bed, you sleep on the floor with a sleeping bag. It's really not that bad.

Offer the bed, and I'd guess that out of politeness and not wanting to step on your toes they'ed choose the floor. They won't want to be an annoyance while staying over. If they do take the bed, it's not that bad anyway, it's only the floor for one night.

if you have access to a rolled mattress type thing (air or foam), the floor isn't so bad...

If you're into that sort of thing, you could both do the bed ;)

Allowing them the bed is your best bet but in my experiences the guests are too respectful to accept the priviledge. If they have to sleep elsewhere make sure it's very comfortable.

Your only polite option is to offer the bed. I agree with the others here: your guest will probably not take the offer.

Also, if he's staying for a couple nights, you could flip for the bed, or switch for the second night.

edit: Or... don't go to sleep at all! Problem solved.

YO playa....if it ain't a chick...don't give up the bed. No matter how good a friend, the guy can sleep on the floor! Book it!

neddy65 01-21-2004 12:45 PM

Offer the bed. If your friend is cool he will turn it down cause you are putting him up and have done enough.

I'm comfortable in my own sexuality. I've shared a bed with both females and males doesn't matter to me. we're SLEEPING, not fooling around.

just remember to discuss hockey when he realizes that his hands aren't between two pillows ala Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

You gotta go with the flow.... offer the bed and have a blow up mattress available. He may be more inclined to go for the floor if it looks like it may be comfy!

If its a girl, offer the bed.
If its a guy, they should know better than to expect anything better than the floor or couch.

analog 03-28-2004 12:38 PM

If it's a girl, have the bedsheets/etc. washed and insist she sleep there.

If it's a guy, he should assume he's going to couch surf or hit the floor. I've never gone to a buddy's and slept in their bed, ever- and i've crashed at friends' places plenty of times.

redarrow 03-28-2004 05:37 PM

All my friends (girl or guy) crash in the same bed. Then again I have a huge king bed so its not a problem.

slimshaydee 03-30-2004 11:07 PM

why should someone offer a girl the bed just because she's a girl?
I thought both genders were sposed to be equal nowadays

Yeah! If she's not sleeping with me, she'll have to put up with a sleeping bag.

well actually I have a spare room in my house with a futon, so she can sleep on that.

'Cause that way you can sleep with her. :D Been there, done that. Multiple times with different women, too. Of course, we were sleeping, not fucking. :(

Only in specific ways. Last I heard, guys don't get pregnant except vicariously, as an example.

1> Get an air mattress. You can get a cheap one or a good one, doesn't really matter.
2> Clean the sheets before they arrive.
3> Offer them the bed. If you are feeling chivalerous/generous, insist they take the bed.

The harm done to you (having to sleep on the floor) is minor. You benefit by increasing your own self image as a generous person, your outward image as a generous host is improved.

The total harm done is the same in both cases (one person sleeping on the floor), while the total benefit in the "I insist you take the bed" is increased.

"No guest of mine is going to sleep on the floor while I have a bed."

moonstrucksoul 03-31-2004 11:44 AM

i don't see what the big deal is with sharing a bed with another dude, if it's big enough. I am guessing that some people are not secure enough in their sexuality to sleep next to someone of the same sex.

but if it is that big of a deal, do what everyone has said and get an air mattress, or a fold up cot.

the important thing to remember is that this person is YOUR friend, and THEY are coming up to VISIT YOU. not one of your friends who got to loaded to drive home 5 miles away. Be repectful, it goes along ways.

Jam 04-04-2004 01:16 AM

yea the dude can sleep on the floor... last weekend i woke up in the hall floor... granted i dont remeber how i ot there but nonetheless it is YOUR bed

dnd 04-04-2004 02:59 PM

if its a girl she gets the bed and clean sheets...a guy...well hallway is just fine!
