Pain is your bodies way of saying something is wrong and to take it easy.
Maybe some minor main killers like motrin will help abit
Some ice should abate the swelling a bit if there is any
Is there any bruising? If you are interested, PM me and ill give ya the recipe for some ancient chinese remedy for bruises (I'm serious)

The Egg and Coin Trick
Symptoms: Fever, bruise
Ever get a really bad bruise that would turn red, swell up and eventually turn blue and sensitive? Or how about a really bad fever that you want to get rid of? Well this might do the trick...

Cook a fresh hard boiled egg.
Remove the shell and yolk.
Take a silver coin and buff it until it is clean and shiny
Place the silver coin in the egg white and put them both in the center of a white handkerchief
Fold up the handkerchief corners and hold the handkerchief so that the egg and coin make a ball
Rub the injured area or entire head if you have a fever with the ball
You should be rubbing hard enough to make the egg break up eventually
If all goes well the coin will turn a dark color and the evil spirits will be removed from your body (just kidding)... the bruise will be reduced or the "fung" (wind or cold causing the fever) will be removed.

1337 thats funny...

ive heard that if you just rub a bruise really hard it will push the old blood out and help it heal faster....

hmm...

take a good anti-inflamitory / pain reliever to reduce pain and swelling, as well as help blood circulation... rubbing might help, but don't get overly enthusiastic.

and you should wrap your ankle with an ace bandage for suport.

why do people want to do things when their bodies tell them something is wrong? take a break and let nature do the work, unless you get paid really big bucks and then you pay the price later....

Umm.... how about going to the doctor?

You don't wanna mess around with a broken ankle. I mean, unless you wanna really fuck it up and have to use a cane for the rest of your life.

Ice for the initial pain and swelling, then heat to keep blood flow to the area. A warm compress or a heating pad on a medium strength will keep the bloodflow good, and it will heal faster. If it still hurts though, it's not a good idea to exert it some more, or you'll just end up doing more damage.

Hi Guys, I have a similar problem so I didn't want to start a new thread. I twisted my ankle pretty bad last night and it hurts like a mother this morning. I couldn't even drive myself to work, I had to ask a friend. I was wondering about how to wrap it? I was able to get a bandage and I wrapped it pretty tight. It feels good that way but I don't know if it's good to wrap it tightly or not? Some people mentioned circulation. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

Oh, I'm so smart - I just told you this in your Journal...
Quote:
Treating your sprained ankle

Treating your sprained ankle properly may prevent chronic pain and instability. For a Grade I sprain, follow the R.I.C.E. guidelines:

Rest your ankle by not walking on it.

Ice it to keep the swelling down.

Compressive bandages immobilize and support your injury.

Elevate your ankle above your heart level for 48 hours.

It's prolly past the saturday ur looking for, but i kno a good deal about ankle sprains, seein as hi did it 6 times this summer, and had to go to physical therapy.

when u sprain ur ankle badly, u pull the leginments, so they are streched out for a while. U have to get ur legiments back to a normal size. That takes a lot of rest, and depending on the injury sum physical therapy.

The last time i did mine was when i decided i need sum physical thereapy. My ankle was swollen to about the size of a small grape fruit. and it hurt really bad. SO i go to pt and they hooked me up, im prolly about 90% now. i got one left then they release me and send me into my home workout. when i get it, i'll tell u sum stuff u can do

Great, thanks pacaveli! If you could also tell me some of the exercises they had you do, that would help a lot!

well in physical therapy i was being monitored, so i dunt recomend doing a lot of the stuff i did.

for the pain, after most every PT i got Ice and Electrical stimulation

they gave me retrictive bands and made me move my ankle in different directions. IF YOU PUT TO MUCH RESTRICTION IT WILL HURT NOT HELP

i stood on one foot and threw a ball at a trampoline for balance. I did my ankle so bad my balance was completely fucked up. also i did clocks and quick kicks. CLocks u stnad on the hurt ankle and move the other foot around ur body putting ur foot ont he ground for a slight second at each place the hour numbrs would be only go from 12 to 6. quick kicks u wunt be able to do
i did baps which u wunt be able to do.
i put a weight on my ankle and layed on my sie and lifeted my leg in the air. apparently ur hip can be a cuase of a ankle injury.
rode a stationary bike for 10 minutes to loosen up.
i can't think of anythign eles, besides the toal gym that u prolly wunt be able to do. if u have a horizontel squat machine put it on low resistance and do that.

MOST IMPORTANTLY wear a brace when ever u are doing !ANYTHING! active. Im a big sports player i have a brace u can buy prolly at ur local sports shop like Dicks, or MVP sports. IT's called an Active Ankle it has a hinge where ur ankle is alowing u to have more movement with great protection. I recomend that, but i dunt kno if it will interfere with skating. But seriously if u dunt wanna do it again get a brace and always wear it. if u dunt wear it ur very likely to do it again. whenever i wore a brace in the sumer i didn't sprain my ankle, the second the brace was off it happend. and after the first time it only gets worse. if it's bad see a doctor.

EDIT: Home work out coming soon!!!!

Great tips, pac! It sounds like you had a pretty severe sprain. I got an ankle brace but I may have to pick up the Active Ankle you mentioned. Thanks again.
