Going to NYC.(where to stay, eat, go?)

I've decided that I'm going to NYC in the spring/summer. I've never really traveled anywhere as an adult.

Simple question first, Which airline do you prefer? I wanna save money on the plane because It's not a very long trip.

I'd want to have a hotel room that I don't want to leave, Something with more than a bed and bath. Something close to Broadway. I was thinking something like The Waldorf Astoria.

Next I need somewhere to eat. I only have 2 rules about where I want to eat. The food has to look cooked, and I the menu needs to be in english(or at least have english subtitles)

Where to go.. I want to see a few landmarks. Hopefully see Ground Zero. Visit a few Broadway shows, few landmarks go shopping and whatever else people recommends.

Few more Questions. How much should I expect to pay for a decent meal, cab rides, tipping doormen/busboys visiting landmarks? etc etc etc...(aka how much money to keep on me)

Is spring/summer a bad time to go? It seems like everything is booked a year in advance

Anything I'm missing?

We just stayed at The Muse, which is a half-block away from TKTS. Gorgeous/modern/small number of rooms, and sounds like it might meet your criteria. We booked through Hotwire, it is listed as the "four-and-a-half star boutique" hotel. Didn't find it on a quick re-searching, but it might be there for the timeframes you were thinking about.

New York is known for many things, but spacious living is not one of them. The MUSE, however, provides indisputable proof that cramped quarters need not be part of the Manhattan experience. With guest rooms and suites at least 50 square feet bigger than most New York hotels, The MUSE provides guests the luxury to dream.

So...whether you're stretching out in a true featherbed or stealing away for a hot bath, the hectic streets seem far, far away. The MUSE is sure to spoil even the most discerning traveler.

The Chelsea Hotel has the whole history of every "underground" and artistic generation of NYC as a part of its tradition. Do some searches and you'll see a lot of our cultural icons passed through there.

It's also a cool place and cool part of town to hang around.

I had a studio around the block from it for a few years.

Manhattan great place...book your flight now on Orbitz or Hotwire it will save you a few bucks. As for which airline, well that’s preference. I prefer Continental & Delta.
Hotels ummmm there are so many to choose from it will make your head spin. I grew up there and only stayed in one, The Paramount, six years ago $279 a night lots of space awesome view, room service etc. Don’t have a link but sure you can find it, get the NY restaurant guide (Zaget) I think that’s how you spell it, anyway it lists everything you want to know about every restaurant in the city. Cabs can ad up, take the train or walk you probably get there faster. Buy a map! If you want to venture out of the city, go to Coney Island, the cab ride will cost you about $30 so again take the train its only about 1 hour.
I personally like NY this time of year everyone seems to be a bit nicer around the holidays...

The Gershwin Hotel it's a nice place near Gramarcy Park/Flat Iron.

If you are here and I'm available... I'll give you the cynthetiq tour of NYC.

The American Museum of Natural History. My favorite is the Hall of Ocean Life (life size model of a blue whale) and the Dinosaur (largest collection in the world) exhibits. They also have a great planetarium show but it is a bit expensive...

Check out http://www.digitalcity.com/newyork/dining/ for a decent restaurant guide, and be sure to eat lots of good pizza!

Also, don't be afraid to ride the subway. It goes just about everywhere and is only two dollars a ride no matter how far you ride. Everyone uses the subway and it is quite safe. It runs 24 hours a day but they do get more sporadic and a bit scetchy after midnight or later depending where you are.

I love this city, have a great time!

Empire State Building -one of those touristy things that you have to do - it is worth it. Get away from Times Square etc and see some of the neighborhoods.

heh heh thats where I was conceived and lived .

My parents lived next to the chelsea.

I still pass their all the time.
My parents were both bar tenders at a celebrity bar and my father worked at the filmore east before that.

So Chelsea was a great place for them to live.

Actually lol Im on my wa to chelsea right now, not the Chelsea but chelsea none the less 8 th and 17th.

But anyways, the waldorf astoria is pricy.

If you are willing to splurge , then boy I have some recomendations for you.

If you have a s/o going with youu then by all means go to once if by land twice if by sea.. Was that correct?

anyways, there are many things to do in every budget for nyc. Ill think of some for you.

I would say though to book your self a show for the donkey show. great disco musical fun and they encourage drinking.

Well see ya going to bounce around the city right now

Who knows maybe Ill bump into you at a bar while your there

I went to NYC for some concerts this past May. I had such a great time. I went by myself so I was able to do things that I wanted, when I wanted. I stayed in a hotel near South Street Seaport which was nice. Nothing special but it was alright.

I went to the Gugenheim (I'm such I butchered that) as well as the Met, which was amazing. It's so big and I hardly saw any of it.

I was also able to go horse back riding in Central Park which is something I've always wanted to do. It was $50 for an hour which isn't bad at all really.
