Bored with the scenery when you run?

I've been running for a few years, and while it is a good workout, i find that it's gotten boring- i took every route away from my house, and none of it was interesting anymore. I didn't want to drive somewhere else to run, I wanted to be back at my house when i was finished. So I started looking for other options. I considered a treadmill and a TV, stairmaster, etc. But in the end i chose DDR.

I found this playstation game- Dance Dance Revolution, a friend recommended it to me at the gym- and once you get past the learning curve, I've found it is a really good workout as a substitution for running while remaining interesting.

I'd just like to know if anyone else has found this little gem and what they think of it.

I've started jogging again. I have been heading up to the local high school track. The scenery is the same. But its nice to see women walking or jogging. Getting into shape. I guess its inspiration to me. Keeps me going. In high school I ran cross country. Man that was boring. Usually no one near you, different scenery but very boring. In the military we always ran in formation. People all around you. Thankfully as the commander's driver I got to carry the guidion up front with no one near me except the commander. I'ver never been into treadmills. Dont think I could get into something like DDR either.

I don't run often for the same reasons as you describe. My favorite choice for cardio is jump rope in my backyard while watching TV through the screen door. Either that, or I just bring out a radio and keep a pace with the beat .

I never see anything when I run. I am just in a zone and it all goes by without me looking. My wife always tells me about pretty stuff she sees when running. I see asphalt, cars, my shoes...

Hah, I'm the same way when I run outdoors!

I usually like to take up my cardio indoors on an elliptical crosstrainer. My school's gym has some really nice ones:

SportsArt 8300

Plus at the gym they've got a bunch of TV's that you can tune into on an FM radio, and often there are a lot of hotties to look at

I go running at the park in the city. The park may be the same, but the hot chicas there always bring new life to the scenery :P

I also tried doing the stair master at the gym. It had 3 different arcade games on it. My fav one was the tank battle. You have to drive a tank and blow shit up. the speed of your tank is proportional to your work out. so if you slack off, the AI will beat the jebus out of your tank and game over man. so i had to always keep going at a good pace.
pretty fun, but i got bored of that pretty fast.

I run on the treadmills at the gym..they have a bunch of TV's, but it's too loud from all the people and the music to actually hear anything..it's cool to watch some sports plays and stuff but..gets boring after about 10 or 15 minutes

Yea jogging is pretty damn boring, but in Vancouver, if you don't mind the traffic to drive out to Stanley Park, it's BEAUTIFUL. There's a seawall to jog along, it's mostly shady, the view just stretches on and on, and the air is nice and cool and fresh from the water. Perfect jogging route.

I tried DDR out with a couple friends when we saw some more guys playing it on their PS2 with little pads they put on the ground. Great excercise, plus Holic, Drop the Bomb, I like to move it, and Sandstorm are freaking addicting!

DDR was hugely popular here in Vancouver a couple of summers ago. There were tournaments, classes, and several (popular) websites about it. I got hooked on it, and would spend probably about $5-$10/day, depending on how much I had left from my job, just playing it. Great workout, great music, and fun game =)

I don't play it as much now, but it's still fun when I do. Good songs for a workout (mostly from older mixes) are -
Paranoia *
Afronova
Dropout s4r
and any of the Max songs... very very fast stuff

yeah my friend and I here at university play enough ddr to make up for everyone
in fact, we even built our own hard pad, and it works great
it's one hell of a workout too, and i'm definitely seeing some huge results in the midsection/legs(they're HUGE!)
and skier...ddr extreme is coming out for the ps2 this fall, should make your cardio that much more interesting
and for those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, check out www.ddrfreak.com

I love running at the gym because I get two things done at once. The Gym I go two has a plug-in on the equipment for headphones so you can watch and hear the TV. Therefore, I get a good run in and I get caught up the days events.

I run usually along the shoreline in San Francisco, usually around 5:00 or 6:00 pm. I just people watch as I scoot by. If I run on trails I typically zone out and cruise.
