How to treat dry scalp
Hey all. Some of you might remeber another post I did long time ago about dandruff. From the suggestions I got I used T-gel and It got all the dandruff off my scalp. But the problem is that while my head is dandruff free for a little while my scalp just dries up and new dandruff starts. So I was wondering if Moisturiser or conditioner would help. And if it does can you give me some suggestions?

How often are you washing/conditioning your hair? A lot of the chemicals can end up drying out your skin and causing all sorts of problems. If you're washing very often, try reducing slightly.
Otherwise a medicated shampoo containing salicylate (sorry, don't know US brands) or for extra strength, tar solution, might help. Try posting a few more details and we'll all try to help. |
Try a moisturizing shampoo. There are dozens of them. Your local Wal Mart or drug store may not carry that many, so have a look at http://www.drugstore.com/templates/s...341&trxp4=1002
There is also a lot of dandruff shampoos. |
That's what it was.. Head & Shoulders
Dandruff Shampoo, Intensive Treatment ... I used to use that stuff, you can get it at most stores, works great. It comes in a very dark blue bottle. |
Well my scalp dries out and flakes leaving some places really red. some spots on my face are like that.

If it's only Dry scalp, rinsing with apple cider vinigar may help some. Using a conditioner on the scalp may help. Also overtreatment and frequent washing can cause drier scalp so if you can do it only wash your hair every other day. Using a leave in conditioner like Infusium (not specifically recommending that one but it's the only name of one I could remember) or other spray on conditioners sometimes help more with dry scalp too.
Are you sure it just dry scalp? Have someone look closely at it. Have them look for tiny flat pimples or "vesicles". That's often the result of an infection type of thing. If there are vesicles there are two possible reasons for them - fungus (similar to foot fungus/ringworm/athletes foot), or Staphlacoccus. Both are treated very differently. IF it's only dry scalp it could be psoriasis too. Any of these possible things could be helped by seeing a Dr. The psoriasis can be helped with creams designed for that. The Staph may respond somewhat if you apply antibiotic ointment, and the fungus may respond to certain atheletes foot oitments. You could try those things and see what works. |
thanks!

Try Flax Seed oil. It worked wonders on my dog. Supposed to help humans too. You ingest it, not put it on.

okay

flax seed oil =P? hehe thats an idea I suppose.
Tee trea oil and lemon juice( rub on the scalp twice a week If you want a good anti dandruff shampoo that puts T gel to shame try nizoral AD 1% active ingredient is ketacozenole(sp) |
I have the same problem.
I used to try Dandruff shampoo once or twice a week..no good. More than that only makes the problem worse. Tea Tree oil helps, I mix it in with conditioner. But what works the best is to shampoo every other time in the shower, and exercise. At least for me. I have SEVERE dry skin...somes cracks and bleeds. But only when I'm not exercising. The blood flow and sweat helps tremendously. just my 2 cents |
Olive Oil. Rub that in your head every night for a week, then every other day for a week, and then every couple of days for a couple of weeks, and then once a week. I did this and didn't have dandruff or dry scalp problems for years.
I also would sort of comb my hair when the olive oil was in it and the "dandruff patches" came right off. Massage it good and it works. It did for me. |
Thanks again for all the suggestions peope!!!

Might sound like a weird suggestion, but get sweaty a little bit. I used to have dandruff problems, and it went away when I started going to the gym. Funny.
