First 1/2 marathon and lived to tell the tale
Just finished my first 1/2 marathon.
The weather was a scorching hot hot hot summer's day and my previous longest run was 1 hour! My times: 6 miles: 50 mins 12 miles: 2hrs. cramp! 13 miles: 2hrs 20 mins 35 secs! Come on guys put me to shame....... PS My crotch is burning like the sun and you don't want to see my feet! |
Cool, did you train much for it, or did you just go out and run?
|
Congrats!
I did my second one last month - got home in 1h39m47sec. It's a good distance. I've just started training for my first marathon |
1h39m sounds like a pretty good time!
I was running with (or rather started with!) a couple of friends who run for their university and they were going for 1h30m. They ended up getting 1h50m, which made me feel better about using the heat as an excuse! I would love to do another 1/2mar on a cooler day and will aim for 2hrs. hilbert - I had three weeks notice to train and must have done a few half hour runs and two hour long runs. My first hour run felt painful, the next one was fine (even fun!). I plan to keep running and just increase my longest runs by 15minute increments. That way I will soon find a 1/2 marathon comfortable and then maybe a full one some day. I also learnt the importance of wearing the right shoes! EDIT:> Just got my placing: 892 out of 1015 :o. Not exactly spectacular, but at least there's lots of room for improvement :D |
I finished my first 1/2 on the first of June, and did about the same as vat_man: 1:39:39 on a beautiful spring morning. Like him, I'm training hard for a October marathon. Good job, do you have a time frame to run another?

That's pretty awesome to finish in 3 weeks notice. Well now it seems like you're hooked. A little bit more of training and it will definitely get easier and faster.

Three weeks? I don't know if I'm more impressed by your ability to get to the level to run distance in so little time or by the fact that you were actually insane enough to try it....
I'm a runner myself (a cross country and track, and I love running 5k & 10k) and I wouldn't have even thought about training for such an event in so little time. But that you were able to finish is impressive enough. I suggest giving yourself a little more time for the next one, and hopefully try a decent training schedual and you should be able to break 2hrs with ease... |
