Chinchillas
I think chinchillas are the cutest animals I have ever come across. I worked at a pet shop for 6 months last year, and the chinchillas were just so damn cute. They are like, little tiny hyperactive Mexican koalas...I wanted to buy one but I was living with my mom and my mom is a giant bitch when it comes to animals.

Or they are much smarter than hamsters, hamsters are...well the stupidest fucking creature I have ever come across...they are awesome to play with, as long as you don't mind a little work to catch them later, they're incredibly agile and love jumping and climbing. And there fur is very soft, so unfortunately they are used to make coats T_T

Once when I was little we had a bunch of hamsters get loose somehow and for the next few months we would find them in the most insane places.
Probably the most memorable one was when we left out some blackberry cobbler on the table and in the morning there were little paw prints leading away from it. I take that back, the most memorable one was when we started a fire in the fireplace (it's a big, old fashioned one with side vents) and hamsters just started pouring out of the side vents. |

Oh, hamsters... I had 6 of them as a kid, sequentially. All of them came to a bad end, often as a result of escaping from their cages (say what you will about their overall intelligence, but they are excellent escape artists).
As for chinchillas... we just saw our first one in a pet shop last weekend, and it was hiding from us. Poor thing, it did look like an overgrown mouse, and it was stuffed into the corner of the pet shop. I would have taken it home, but I want to take every pet home.

i would have loved to have chinchillas. they're adorable and cuddly.
but since we have a cat now i decided that might not be the best of ideas. after loosing my oscar over the holidays and one hamster to old age..... i've decided that once my second hamster (brother and sister) goes from old age, won't be getting any futher pets. the cat is hyper enough to make one not feel up to so many pets in the home. maybe one day though. when i'm old. maybe mid life crisis time. lol

yeah, i had a friend whose sister had one when i was younger. seems like a nice enough little booger - but the question was always "how the fuck do you find them later." big house, little long slinky hamster thing slinking around everywhere. i mean, you can't call them or anything can you?

Chinchillas actually have no inherent odor. They are completely odorless. I bury my face in their fur all the time and nuzzle them. Now if they live in dirty cages with urine-soaking shavings, they can smell like their cage (yuck).
The best place to let them out to play is in a small confined room like a bathroom. They would be difficult to catch if you let them have run of your house. They also poop a lot, being rodents (small little pellet turds).
