printing on note cards
any one have a nifty way of printing on a 4 x 6 note card? i have a dell laser 1700 with the feed in the front and i can feed the note cards, but can't seem to get it to print to it for the life of me. i tried custom sizes, printing labels. i even tried to free hand it outta photoshop and flash but nothing works. any ideas? thanks in advance

Not knowing what the exact problem is, I'm not sure what solution to offer. I'll give you one that I have used in a crunch. I taped the card to an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper and set the printer to print on that piece of paper with the card attached to the paper where the printing would occur. This will work if the printer is having trouble reading the size of the card.

Have you tried or do you have a setting for printing on an envelope? If you set the "envelope" size to be the same as the notecard, you should be able to get it to line up. If not, you might just want to print on regular paper and tape it tightly to the card.

it's a new laser that my brother's company was liquidating for 35 bucks. he got one for the house and i'm refraining from taping it as i'm afraid the tape will get caught in the rollers. it has a front feed and i have tried different paper sizes, i've tried the envelope setting, i've even tried setting the paper in word to landscape and printing all down the left side, feeding the card so i may align it. but no luck

the card gets fed all the way through. nothing is being printed on the cards. i took the advice above and made a custom envelope and something gets printed on it, but i need to still tweak the settings. it's a bit cumbersome but i guess works. if anyone else has an idea, i'm all eyes...thanks all

I just checked the Dell Laser Printer 1700 Details, and the allowable paper weights are 16 - 24 lb in the drawer, and 16 - 43 lb in the manual feed. I can't track down what the paper weight of an index card is, but I'm pretty sure it exceeds 43 lb. Perhaps it doesn't bend properly inside the printer?

I've managed to print on anything that will go through the printer. I set the margins based on the item I am printing on and use an 8x11 sheet size as the basis. I also save the custom size. I use this for all sorts of note cards, etc.
