My silverware has a metallic taste
I ran a search for this and it didn't come up with anything, so I apologize if this is a duplicate thread.
I bought my silverware a little over a month ago and since it says it is dishwasher safe, I've been running it through the dishwasher. It's beautiful silverware and was pretty expensive, but for some reason it has a metallic taste to it which just ruins the taste of whatever else I am eating. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? It didn't have the metallic taste in the beginning and handwashing doesn't seem to make a difference. Thanks for the help! |
um...your sliverware is metallic, right?
|
did a little googling... found that in general a metallic taste can be related to
1. Very low pH water (3.0-5.5). 2. Heavy iron concentration in water above 3.0 ppm Fe. 3. Leaching of lead and copper So in terms of fixing it... you're going to have to isolate what is causing the taste. Your water, silverware, dish detergent, cooking method, ?? good luck. hope someone is of more help than me! :D (hopefully someone that's dealt with this problem?) |
Are we talking silverware, or flatware?

I had the same problem! I wasn't able to fix it though. I think it had something to do with the silverware only. The trouble I spent trying to fix it was not worth it. I just went out and bought another set of silverware and they didn't have any problems.

I don't think it is the detergeant because the metallic taste is there whether I handwash them or run them through the dishwasher and I use a different soap for each. Maybe it is the water, I'll have to check into that further. Edit: Right after I posted this I found the cleaning instructions for the silverware and it says if you use any soap that has lemon, a strong metallic taste may occur. So, even though I used two different soaps, they both had lemon. Thanks for all of your help! |
