Psychological Forum Anyone..?
 

I brought up the idea of a Psychological Forum as a new place on TFP. According to PhredGreen on the suggestion board he thought I should put this idea out here on this board to see if I can rally support.

I'd like the psychological forum to be a place where professionals or non-professionals can come to discuss issues such as theories, exchange of ideas, what works / what doesn't in the field, administration info in human services, medications, behavioral techniques, graduate and undergraduate school info, burnout support (for those in the fields), etc.

It should not be a place where depressed people linger to mope and gain pity from the masses. It should be informative to professionals and non-professionals and all those who enter.

So what does everyone think.. yay or nay with the idea? Post your reply after reading. It can and would be a new and great forum that would be educational.

Count me in. I am currently working in the adult psych ward of a hospital as a CT intern and prepping for the GRE's next month. I am not taking any psychology classes but I still read a lot and gain tons of experience from my work.

Well, I don't know how often I'd post. But I'm all for it. Lurkers can learn a lot. And if stuff doesn't get too technical, I can try to discuss something. The Layman's Point of View if you will.

I'm a psych minor, and love psychological theory. I'm a Freudian myself. Discussion is bound to be good, especially because of teh divers perspectives represented by TFP members. I'm in!

Glad there seems to be some response to the new forum.. see if we can gather enough to make it happen. What do we do or can we do to get more response?

I think it would be great to "lurkers" or those who participate in discussions.

I'd love to participate in this forum, I'm current pursuing my Ph.D. in child psychology and would definately be open to exchange ideas among professionals and nonprofessionals. Hope more people respond!

My participation would possibly force me to evaluate my personal understanding of human interaction, and develop further, comprehensive development of cognative thought.

Me too. I mean parts of it exist all over TFP, why not bring them together?

As a layman who studies motivation theory, emotion and attachment, I'd definitely be interested in this.

I'm interested in psychology, but I personally don't think there's a need for a separate psychological knowledge board. It'd be kind of like a physics board or a biology board. I suppose if there's enough support for it it'd be worth a shot, but I haven't seen a large number of psychology posts here.

Sounds like a great idea. Good place to learn something new and intersting I hope.

Great idea, theres already a physical health board, why not a metal health one? :thumbsup:

I like the idea of a psychological board, but I never see psych research being posted in the any of the other boards. I doesn't seem like there's a big demand for a board specifically for psychology.

As a sociologist, I'm all for it. As a TFP member, I'm all for it. All in all, I'm all for it.

Used that link to the Suggestions board and saw another post about a Psychology board saying to put it in tilted knowledge. Aaagghhh now my mind is being messed with! Its like a Psychology version of an Infinate Loop!

But back to the point, I can definately see the benefit of it being seperate as a way to frame threads and responses in a more psychologically focused context than normal in Tilted Living. However, i think it'd need a lot more support beforehand than only the 20 or so responses here to keep it from being lost in the shadow of Tilted Living. Perhaps a poll would allow more people to express interest without having to put in a few word reply of "sure sounds good"?

But then again, I'm only a rookie so we'll see how the powers that be respond to the idea.
