What Shoes -- Feet are Killing me
I wanted to get some feedback on what you all think are a good, comfortable pair of shoes. I am a pharmacist, and I am on my feet 8+ hours/day. I feel like my feet are bruised by the end of the day. PLEASE help me decide on a new pair of shoes to increase my quality of life. THanks guys,

get yourself some gel insoles. I use gel insoles in my 'everyday' shoes and in my soccer cleats. Keeps me from getting shin splints too.
or order some of those shoes where they send you a mold, you step in the mold and send it back, and they custom-build you a pair of shoes. |
Get some high quality Rockports or clogs. Cork bottomed contoured to your foot would be ideal. Also, adding a 'superfeet' insole to most of my shoes really firms and tightens things up and makes the whole experience painless.

look at Ecco or Josef Seibel. Not much for fashion, but extremely comfortable and supportive. As j8ear said, Superfeet is a great product. I don't need them in my Seibels or Eccos but EVERY other shoe I have has a set, from golf shoes to ski boots.

I definitely agree about the insoles. I would also add that I wear Vasque boots (a sub-brand of Red Wing) and find them extremely comfortable even for long periods. For someone who weighs around 250 lbs, finding comfortable shoes can be quite a challenge. No shoe has treated me as well as the Red Wings.

Before getting orthodic inserts, San Antonio Shoes and Rockport were the two brands that did not do damage to my feet. New Balance wasn't bad.

thanks for the input everyone.

I will second the Red Wings. I have to stand all day on concrete floors, and it about kills my back. I wear the top-of-the-line workboots, even though I actually wear office-casual clothing. Looks a little strange, but my back likes me.
Another excellent choice, sportier and lighter-weight, are Clarkes. They give excellent support and comfort over long periods. If you're not an especially heavy person (less than 200 pounds), I'd say that they'd do you as well as the more heavy-duty Red Wings (I'm 250 lbs). |
Brooks Beast.

I heard "Camper" is good. :) Casual and very comfortable. :)

I have the same problem - I tried gel insoles, and they felt good for a day or two but after that I really couldn't tell I had them any more. I mentioned it to my doctor during a routine checkup and he checked my feet. Apparently I have fallen arches (flat feet). Short of surgery, the only way to relieve it is to get arch supports (Dr. Scholl's is what I got). I walk a lot, although not nearly as much as you, so it took a while for the residual ache to go away, but they did make a HUGE difference in the discomfort. Don't just assume that's it, though. I would see a doctor for something that important (what can we do without our feet, after all?)
Getting them in Rockports would be ideal. A podiatrist friend recommends them without reservation. |
Ahem. I think I can speak with some authority when it comes to hurting feet (or foot).
The most cushy, comfortable shoes on the planet are made by zeeta. Period. |
Clavus is probably much more qualified being as he has a sexual organ on his foot and they are very sensitive, but I have found great luck with SAS shoes and they last for years.
