Luring mosquitos

Ok, it's mosquito season, and we've got one little fucker in the house that has been feeding on us for the past couple of days. I see a glimpse of it now and again, but it always escapes me.

So out of curiosity, is there something that I could use to lure the damn insect to a certain spot in the house so I could kill it? Is there anything that mosquitos love beyond else?

losthellhound 03-26-2004 08:22 PM

blood?

mosquitos are actually fruit eaters, and only the females need blood. They only need 2 meals of blood to nourish their eggs - the rest of the time they eat fruit. Try a peach.

Just to add, If you are really in the mood to track the mosquito down get windex or hairspray, clogs up the pores that is breathes out of and its dead pretty much since its wings are to heavy with the windex on em. I have moquito problems occasionally is just a sit around patiently game for a few mins until it comes then take it down.

How to lure? Im not really sure but I do notice that when they are in my house they are attracted to fans etc with the big lights other then that no clue ^^

Primary attractants are heat, light, CO2, and body odor.

A few companies manufacture lures which burn propane to create warmth and CO2 to keep the mosquitos at bay during your outdoor activities.

yep. worst I'd ever been bit up (100+ on my legs alone) was at dusk in june near the end of a long walk into prime mosquito territory. they just swarmed to my friend and I, and I'm sure we were very much giving off all of the above.

(t'was in minnesota, where the mosquito is the unofficial state bird :p)

Nah, SiN. That's just confirmation of what I've thought all along-you taste good. ;)

SiN 03-27-2004 01:42 PM

...sure, could be that too ;)

seriously tho, the funny thing is, since then, I've made peace with the mosquito. We are friends now. :)

Uttering such things should amount to treason! Never turn your back on a mosquito, for though their buzzing may be so much sweet music in your ears and their vile sting an irresistable beacon of masochistic joy, the taste of your sweet human blood will never be far from their twisted little minds.

Prince, i think it has to be more than just one mosquito. These fuckers travel in packs.
In any case, i've never had a problem attracting mosquitos. They love my blood so much that they die just to taste it.

Do I have a lure!?!? Sure I do...

"Hey mosquito... everybody who's anybody is over in the living room. "

I've got a jig too...

"Come on in to the room (bug), come on into the rooooom (bug bug)"

CO2 tank with a slow-leak valve will lure the fucker right to you.

If you paintball in the woods, use nitrogen instead of CO2 or else you're going to itch.

i agree with making peace--if it's really only one mosquito, let it fill up and then live a happy life and then die. make sure there's no stagnant water around.

i remember something about people who ate bananas were twice as likely to be bitten...

maybe this will lead you some where

tropple 05-04-2004 01:44 PM

hi. There are a few mosquito killers that actually work.

They use burn propane and use a concentrate form of oxen saliva as the bait. Stanley (I think) and Coleman make them. They start at around $200 and will lure in mosquitoes in a huge area 200x200 feet. A good investment.

re

heres a trick i learned.

if you find it flying around in a room, turn off the lights and wait a bit.

this will let the mosquito look for light, then turn on the light and u'll find it i'm sure somewhere near the bulb.

then do your Karate Kid impersonation and clap that little motherfather to death.
