What animal tracks are these?

Found these in my backyard, not sure what animal left these. My first guess is a possum but it is just a guess, there about 3 inches across each track. Any ideas?

First thing that fizzed to the top of my brain: it's a snow crocodile.

Baraka_Guru 02-06-2010 03:02 PM

I did some online research. It looks like a pair of tracks from a bounding animal. Maybe weasels or rabbits or squirrels or something.

Craven Morehead 02-06-2010 06:11 PM

ummm, be careful next time you go out

Bounding animal with long tail. Do possums bound? I think they scamper.

Grancey 02-06-2010 10:23 PM

Raccoon, maybe?

downhill 02-08-2010 04:42 PM

Do you live near any nuclear facilities, government genetic research labs, or toxic waste dumps? If yes its a giant frog with a tail. If the answer is no, i'd have to say it looks very squirrelish...

Son, I think what you have discovered is:

It doesn't look quite like the squirrel tracks around here, I'd say rabbit.

highthief 02-09-2010 06:08 PM

Knowing where you live would help narrow it down.

thingstodo 02-10-2010 12:20 PM

It isn't rabbit as they have four tracks with two larger and two smaller and their tails don't drag, they puff! Is this one set or two sides side-by-side? I'd have to say mice but they usually burrow under the snow unless they are on a driveway or other hard surface.

Wyodiver33 02-10-2010 12:31 PM

Definitely jackalope tracks.

thingstodo 02-15-2010 11:37 AM

A friend said they look like mink tracks because that is the way they bound.

London Ontario, I am now thinking there just squirrel tracks?!?!

thingstodo 02-16-2010 08:45 AM

I've never seen a squirrel drags its tail!

canuckguy 02-16-2010 10:31 AM

I've seen a possum in my backyard before so i think that might be it, but the hole under my shed is pretty small and the tracks lead to it. Anyone want to come over and stick your hand in? Beers on me!

Good point. I think i was drunk when i guessed last time. My new very educated opinon is a yeti. Hope that clears it up.

Hektore 02-22-2010 07:29 PM

Mouse?

Maybe a rat, some kind of rodent.

canuckguy 02-22-2010 07:51 PM

Well she wants a cat, I guess I could see a use now. Cheers

I had to call the city this morning as there was a dead skunk on my neighbours driveway this morning, near the end of the road. Big sucker too. Stinky. It is like wild kingdom here. City style.

bobby 02-23-2010 07:28 AM

mink...or some relative, long tail that drags andthey bound along...how deep was the snow?

That is what I was going to say. Though it could be snipe tracks also.

girldetective 02-23-2010 09:16 AM

I think I recognize those as Plan9 tracks.
He must have been wearing heels.

canuckguy 03-03-2010 02:48 PM

Jaegyr 03-03-2010 11:52 PM

shalafi 03-07-2010 06:57 PM

chupacabra

Hektore 03-08-2010 03:46 AM

I just went for a hike across one of the mountains around here that still has snow on it, I'm quite thoroughly convinced now that it's a mouse.

shalafi 03-08-2010 07:49 PM

maybe its a tiny bunny pushing a wheelbarrow

canuckguy 05-03-2010 05:10 PM

I am taking down my deck and shed this summer in a backyard project. I am scared of what I am going to find hidden under the shed.
