Mole problem
 

I recently discovered that I have a bit of a mole problem in my garden, how do I go about getting rid of them, see I recently planted a lot of new bulbs ,and don't want them screwing up all my hardwork.

Seriously, you'll have to either resort to poisons or traps. Unless you have an outdoor cat that takes an interest.

You can always pay trappers to kill them over the summer. That will run you about $400-500/year. Or just shoot yourself and you waon't care any more. None of the crap they give you to put in your yard works. Purchase the traps that cut their heads off like the pros use and learn how to use them is the only thing you can do yourself.

I back up to a tree farm and basically gave up a few years ago. I tried the things that make noise and all that did was make them move around even more. The spray with castor oil also makes them move, just not out of your yard. Both mean you end up with more fun trails in the grass.

I hear this is a very therapeutic solution.

I've had trouble with gophers (and the occasional mole) for years. I've tried sprays, poison smoke bombs, and traps, and the only thing that works is traps. They're a pain to set, but in the long run they're less work and a lot less money.

Get a pack of juicy fruit gum. Tear each stick in half and put it by the openings of their burrows. They eat the gum and choke on it- honest to God. I thought this was crazy when I first read about it, but I tried it in my garden and it worked

Helluva lot easier and safer than poisons and traps!

I have tried traps and mothballs. Not much luck with either. I'll have to give the Juicy Fruit a try. Watched a special on moles on the discovery channel..............Moles are tough little scoundrals.

Thanks , the sucker is really starting to piss me off ,will try the traps for now ,let you know how it goes.

I have learnt that moles are after grub worms. I use a bag of stuff for all insects ...you can get different kinds but main one is one that will kill grub worms. it works for me.:thumbsup:

Do you have an outdoor cat? It really doesn't need to take an interest in hunting, as gofers, ground squirrels, and rabbits are usually terrified when they catch the scent of one.

We never had gofers when we had outdoor feline friends. Unfortunately these days most adoption centers aren't too happy to let you adopt a cat if you tell them they're going to be a working indoor/outdoor cat.

My father recently paid someone to spray an awful-smelling chemical that is supposed to repel gofers for the next 5 years. I was kinda terrified to walk through our backyard with my sister's young children for the first few days until the stench went away. Smelled something like formaldehyde.

I thought most of the people on this board liked guns.

We had the same issue. My husband bought an ultra sonic thingy that sticks in the ground. The moles hate the sounds and they leaver your yard ASAP. Worked like a charm.

No poisons, no traps, no killing.

Get a Jack Russell Terrier.

I've had an outdoor cat that dug up moles and killed them, too, but the Jack Russell Terror is the most reliable solution. My parents tried traps, poison, and a few other gimmicky things, and nothing worked other than the good old fashioned food chain. It's really hard to hunt them yourself because you have to watch for the ground moving.

i'd still rather see a splatter on my back fence..from a shotgun of course

I was going to say the same thing-get a JR terrier. My sister's can sniff out/hear those little buggers, goes nuts digging at them til he finds one, catches it and plays with it til it dies. It's amazing to watch him get'em.
