bamboo gift, how do I keep it alive?
I have seen them everywhere from the pharmacy to wal-mart..etc.
A few stalks of bamboo in a cheesy vase, with a few rocks at the bottom, and some water. I have one now, if you have any experience in keeping them alive, happy and healthy, pass it on. I re-cut two stalks and they seem to be doing a little bit better than the others, yet no new roots....??? |
I got mine from my mom about two and a half years ago. It grew up really fast with me doing nothing but adding water weekly and adding two drops of a substance called Green Green. Don't know if it came with it, but it was given to me along with the bamboo.
It also depends on the person. My mom has a bamboo plant in her room and it doesn't grow. We tried moving it to my room and it grew pretty significantly within a few weeks. Moved it back, and it stopped again. |
The bamboo most people have isn't actually bamboo. Google 'lucky bamboo care' or something like it.
We have little direct sunlight in our current place, lucky bamboo seems to thrive better than real plant. We replace the water every couple weeks, keep the container about half full, and tend to lightly feed/fertilize at that time. I'm not entirely sure why (and I really should know this, I think it is due to chlorination), we let a pitcher of water sit on the counter for a few hours before we water the plants. We have a couple that have to be actively pruned so they don't grow so high they collapse under self weight. |
