one dark day

one dark day
in the middle of the night
two dead boys
got up to fight
back to back
they faced eash other
drew their swords
and shot each other
a deaf policeman
heard the noise
and came to kill
the two dead boys
if you dont believe
this lie is true
ask the blind man
he saw it too

my neighbour when I was 12 used to quote that all the time. I had to learn Jabberwocky to one-up him :) Fight nonsense with nonsense.

where is this one from?

Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away

Isn't there a joke or story that ends with '"I see," said the blind man who picked up the hammer and saw.'

Nice! Awsome use of the rhymes. It goes good.

The only time I have heard the "Last night I saw upon the stair" poem was in the movie "Identity" with John Cusack. Good movie. As for the "I see" quote it goes: "I see said the blind man to his deaf wife as he picked up his hammer and saw".

That whole book with the Jabberwocky is amazing. Shoot, now I need to read it again, especially the Walrus and the Carpenter.

And from the excellent IMDB.com, we now know that the poem is by Hughes Mearns!

I used to recite that poem while doing jump rope when I was 6 years old (and when it finished, count 1, 2, 3, etc).

It's apparently a folk-poem of sorts and there are many, many variations on it:

I loved that joke when I was in elementary school. Unfortunately, I first recited it as "'"I see," said the blind man who picked up the hammer and started seeing". My parents still remind me of that one.
