Opinions on Suikoden IV?
I've been a huge fan of the Suikoden series. I got the first one on ps before the hype and was pleasantly surprised. However, I'm seeing bad reviews on this one across the web. Has anyone else played it that would like to share an opinion?
I'm currently looking to pick up a game to kill some time with. I tried Resident Evil 4 and after about an hour, I just did not like it at all. So, my choices are down to Fable, Kingom Under Fire, Suikoden IV or another good RPG for GC, Xbox, or PS2 if anyone has a reccommendation. I just finished Kingdom Hearts and Paper Mario. |
Holy crap, i wasn't even aware that there was a Suikoden IV. I guess i should pay more attention. I enjoyed Suikoden III, so I'm no doubt gonna give this a try.

Barely started it, but so far, it's got a nice feeling to it. The storyline/cutscenes are as great as ever, very enthralling.
Only thing I dislike so far is the new combat system. Mostly that it only lets you take 4 characters total in a party.. With 108 total characters, and you've got a main one always in party, your party seems really small, and choosing who to pick might get tricky later in the game. I guess I'll get used to it. |
I like it, and I think that if you enjoyed Suikoden III, you'll enjoy this one as well. There are, though, a couple frustrating things. Traveling by sea takes a little while to get used to, especially since there are 'invisible walls' barring you from places you shouldn't go to. Also, the random encounter rate can seem a bit high sometimes.

i'd argue that i'm the biggest suikoden fan on this board, and i don't really like Suikoden 4, it seems to me that they fucked up with 3, and now they've fucked up with 4.... i need to write them and ask to have them make a Suikoden 2 worthy game again.....

My main grip is the main char is silent. That just annoys the mess out of me. How does all this stuff go on and all he does is nod... Lastly the random encounters on ships is to high. Other than those things I'm enjoying the game right now  |
i have not opened it yet but i have enjoyed 1,2 and 3 so i don't expect it to be bad
