Question about installation error...

I recently bought a brand new EA game. First computer game that I bought for my brand new computer. Woo! Took it home, attempted to install it and...

At 84% of the way through, the installation froze. I recieved an error message reading "Data Files Complete. Data Error (cycle redundancy check)". Now, I've emailed EA with this little problem, but my question is...
What the hell is this error? Never in my experience with any computer software have I seen a 'cycle redundancy check' or anything of the like.

Might I say that my OS is Windows XP SP2. Which means, of course, that none of the tech support can help me, because everything is different. Damn Microsoft. Anyway, I was just hoping someone out there would have a clue as to what's going on. Thanks guys.

A cyclic redundancy check is a simple mathematical method for detecting and possibly correcting data errors. It's not a message often waggled in the face of users these days since box covers don't have the space to explain what it means.

Sounds like you may need a replacement CD. Save a trip. Try it in another computer or CD drive just in case.

On the other hand, cycle redundancy check may mean you received two bicycles for Christmas. Have you checked for large boxes?

Rewind. Couldn't leave the house without apologizing for that last bit. Sorry. I blame the season.

Cyclical redundancy check usually is a problem with the cd rom media. Make sure there isn't a blemish or a smudge on it.

The game was Medal of Honor - Pacific Assult.

Anyway, problem fixed. I just copied the CD files onto my HD and then loaded the game from there. Worked like a charm. I think it was a problem with Windows Installer. Or the fact that Windows XP sp2 sucks (hey, it killed my ipod, too).
