Hmm. Looks real, but old. All the pictures, text and menu setup appears to be an old Blizzard standard, but, something bothers me about it. I can't find the information on it by going through worldofwarcraft.com's main page. Also, when following up on the other race pages, the layout is quite different. Hmm, I'm not too sure on this one.

BuddyHawks 11-06-2004 09:49 PM

that
is
awesome

i probably wont be trying this untill i get bored with the game, as it seems to be more for comedic purposes rather than practical.

and its legit. people are talking about it on the fourms

For example, if one particular Ogre's left head is named "Jonny" while the right head is named "Bob," the full name of the Two-headed Ogre and the name attached to communications with the outside world will be "JonnyBob." Since both heads speak with this single name, there is no way for other players to know which of the heads within one body is speaking. Thus, it is important to discuss these external communications internally first to avoid appearing schizophrenic.

It's got to be a hoax, did you read the chat windows in the screenshots? hilarious and ridiculous.

The World of Warcraft Sees Arrival of Two Headed Ogres
Who wants a whole ogre if half will suffice?
Blizzard announced today that their new MMORPG World of Warcraft will include the race Two-Headed Ogres as a playable race. The race will give two separate players simultaneous control of a single body.

By selecting the Two-headed Ogre race, you are selflessly choosing to share your existence in World of Warcraft with another player. That is, you are staking claim to one half of the Ogre whole. As a Two-headed Ogre, you will have control of one head and one arm at all times. Your other half will be controlled by a second player automatically and permanently paired with you upon character creation.
Nuff said =P

You guys going to be on test server 9 or 14? Only server 9 and 14 are PVP, other test server are PVE.

I already got a head start on server 9 with my tauren  Just drop a line which server you guys going to be in.

-Ever- 11-07-2004 02:39 PM

I'm still confused about the difference between PVE and PVP servers. I did some reading at the WoW websites but still have some basic questions.

Can you do all of the quests in the PVP server? Is the PVP's main difference just that you're able to go hostile against other players or is the server just one large battleground made for people to fight eachother in? I'd like it if it were the first so it's a little more realistic while I quest, but I'll stick to the PVE if I'm going to be PK'ed all day while I'm trying to quest.

Thanks for any info.

The *only* difference between the PvE server and PvP is in PvP the Alliance and Horde players can attack each other at will.

Crack 11-07-2004 10:39 PM

New patch Info: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patch...1-07-04.html#d

Quote:

Mage

Blink should work much more reliably and will not stop your movement.

Removed facing requirement from Counterspell, Detect Magic, and Polymorph.

Polymorph: Now dismounts the enemy target, increased the chance of breaking early.

Blizzard: Deals its damage in more frequent intervals.

Arcane Intellect: Ranks 4 and 5 now require reagents.

Teleport: Now requires a reagent.

Portal: Now requires a reagent.

Slow Fall: Now requires a reagent.
What is this blink spell? Is this like the Warden Blink spell in Warcraft 3?

-Ever- 11-07-2004 11:00 PM

I dunno, but I know there's quite a lot of uproar over the new patch. Lots of people claiming it's changed the way the game used to play pretty drastically. Might just be the usual mumbo jumbo but worth checking out. I'm just glad the game's finally here. I've been following so much drama for so long and I haven't even played it yet! Let's hurry things up here, OB.

The new death penalty sounds discouraging for PvP. It's bad enough to get ganked with no penalty, but now it's also going to waste time and money. I find item decay in general to be a pointless time and money sink. If it's supposed to stop "bind rushing" (I played EQ PvP but not for long enough to have ever experienced that), I think there must be a better solution, or at least they could tone down the penalty for PvP. There should be a penalty for PvE deaths, but PvP right now is one of the things making me lean toward playing WoW over EQ2, and if it's a pain in the ass I won't bother.

UPDATE: They are taking the durability penalty OFF PvP in the next patch!
But I'd still rather have a straight up mandatory XP penalty than durability in PvE...at least then dying would only cost time.

Some of it is the regular mumbo jumbo (most of the forum idiots say that each and every WoW patch "destroys" the game), but some of it is very drastic. The two biggest changes are the death penalty and the incorporation of reagents into caster spells.

If you die, all of your items lose 10% durability, even items not equipped. It costs a certain amount of money to repair these items. If they get to 0% durability, their beneficial effects such as armor rating, stats, etc. are negated. Items do not lose power until 0%. They don't "break" at 0% either...it's impossible to lose an item from durability. The bad part? Repairing items can be very expensive, especially if did over and over and over...and the true problem surfaces! I've PVP'ed between Southshore and Tarren Mill for hours at a time and died more than 10 times. That means for every 1-2 hours on a PVP server you may have to completely repair your armor which is VERY expensive. At level 50+, repairing all of the items in your inventory takes more than 3-5 GOLD.

Furthermore, instead of the Spirit Healer taking experience to revive you (if you choose the SH, you can always run to your corpse for no penalty), it now simply makes all of your items at 0% durability and puts a 30 minute resurrection sickness on you that seriously cripples your ability to fight. Like I said, it takes 3-5 gold to repair your armor now, so every SH rez is gonna cost a ton of money and leave you crippled for 30 minutes.

Ok, so the durability thing is gonna cost a lot of money and PVP'ers are gonna be more chicken-shit now because they don't wanna die. I could probably live with that without too much complaining. But wait! There's more!

Blizzard has the notion that casters should use items to cast some of their spells. Warlocks already do this to a certain extent. I wouldn't mind a caster having to use an item to cast a spell if the item was relatively cheap. You know, maybe 50 copper per buff, or 1 silver to teleport?

No. Mages now have to spend 20 SILVER to teleport their group and 10 SILVER to self-teleport. Mages get the self-port spell at level 20. Asking a level 20 to spend 10s to teleport is basically asking them to wipe out half of their bank account. 20s for a group teleport is almost as bad...but you can charge people for this and ask your group members to help pay for the reagent needed. BUT 10S FOR SELF-PORT??? Mages are NEVER gonna self-port now.

On top of that, all of the major caster-buffs cost money to cast after rank 4. It costs 7-20 silver for the items needed to cast caster buffs for every person. Why am I gonna buff my entire party if it takes 1 gold per hour? 1 gold is just about what I make on the average DAY. These new reagents needed to cast the buff spells are wasting everyone's gold supply.

So basically, I'm still gonna play the game and enjoy it, but these changes seriously affect the gameplay (especially the reagents). My solution would be making the reagents cost 50c for buffs and 1s for self-port and leave group port at 20s (group members can help pay for it). If Blizzard doesn't change this then no one is ever going to cast a rank 4 buff spell on anyone in the game (even themselves) ever again. Mages aren't gonna self-port anymore. It's basically ruining the advantage that caster classes had.

I'm guessing that Blizzard is gonna change the whole reagent thing...a thread was created on the WoW forums and the thread hit 25 pages in two hours.

Either way it's downloaded and I'm just waiting for WoW.com to release the OB signups so I can get a key. See you out there soon, Lasereth, it's about f-ing time ;)

Mages don't suck, they just have to use reagents (which cost money after level 35 or so) for one of their buffs and teleports. They're still pain-bringers.

Lol yeah I was being sarcastic. It's funny see all the people pour their hearts out over the patches at the WoW forums. Even though I'm yet to play, I think I'm all for things like the new death penalty and such. Just keeps people from messing around and will hopefully make it a little harder to speed level to 60.

I think I'm gonna start out with a Warrior and a Mage and just play casually among both of them. Were the Heroes of the Universe going to be on the East Coast server? And should I put HoU in my name or do you leave that out because of naming conventions?

Yeah, definitely an East Coast Server. Others can play on it as well, but *gasp* those from the West Coast make experience lag as bad as 200 milliseconds!

Just make a fantasy-type name and we'll worry about the rest. Your guild name is displayed below your name so you don't need to be xXxHoU-Ever-UoHxXx or other various idiot FPS names. :)

I wonder how many OB accounts File Planet has, and also when the WoW site will start handing them out? www.worldofwarcraft.com says this is an "initial run" of accounts.

Make a character and you'll spawn at Stormwind castle. Go to the bottom and find a bubble with the "!" symbol in it. Begin adding people by the names the gave in the other WoW thread. Mine's ever ;)

Slayzz Tauren Hunter Server 4

See you guys in wow.

Reese 11-10-2004 01:38 AM

I'm going to be playing East Coast PVP server. I was going to be Horde but I have no problems being Alliance. My main is probably going to be a Night Elf Priest but I'm going to wait until retail to start playing because I really don't want to get attached to a character and have him get deleted. It'd be great to play with fellow tfpers.

Irishsean 11-10-2004 04:28 AM

Ok, I'm on East Coast 16 as Irish. Got Hunter to 5, Druid to 8, Paladin to 5... they all suck! =P

Think I'm gonna try Mage or Rogue next, hehe...

Awesome game btw...

I got to find you guys after I get my Rogue to Lvl 10 (Duel Daggers baby!) Have you guys rode the Deeprun tram yet? I hear it's pretty cool, can't be as cool as the Hippogryph ride, that was amazing.
me and Ravenshot Backstabin' our way across Teldrassil!

New Rogue first impressions

The game is awesome. Hands down the best game I have ever played. Only been playing for 1 night, already lvl 8. The people on the PVP server (east 16) were nice and friendly, even had a lvl 1 priest follow me around and watch me kill stuff while he healed for a few hours. It's the greatest thing to turn around after the battle and have someone Bowing to you in awe. The game ran smooth, no lag for me at all, there were a few times when I was looting a mob where I didn't get up after kneeling down, but it only lasted a few seconds. Wandered thru the forest in stealth mode, sneaking up on people and scaring them.
The only question I have is; can I use backstab as a first attack? I sneak up on a mob, and I click the BS button, and it says I do not have a target, but as soon as I aquire the target with the regular attack button, I come out of stealth, and the mob turns aroung to face me, and backstab no longer works. Is BS not meant to be a first attack? Am I missing something here?
Any other rogues in the game want to explain?
