Tiger Woods 2005 or Def Jam Fight 4 NY.. Which would you get?

Both TW 2005 and Def Jam come out this week, and I am torn about which one to get. I think I will enjoy both games, but I am only going to buy one. I was hoping to get some feedback and recommendations from those that enjoy both types (golf and wrestling/fighting) of games, and which you would go with, and why?

Also, if you have played either of the games' earlier releases, and would recommend or not recommend either based on previous experiences, I'd really like to know that as well.

I've been going back in forth in my mind the last few days, and I wanted to present the topic to others (via TFP) and see if your comments would help me make a final decision..

I'd be buying the game for XBox, and of the two, only Tiger Woods is online. I'm online with my XBox, but don't buy games just for their online play.

Any feedback, comments, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I'd say Tiger Woods, I think it has superior multiplayer and replay value.

I've played the previous Tiger Woods game and DefJam Vendetta. Out of those two, I liked Tiger Woods better. But if you already have the previous Tiger Woods, go for the new DefJam game. I've been reading a lot of reviews and it looks like it's a lot better than the previous game. I dig fighting games and they tend to be more fun when friends come over. I might pick it up.

Tiger Woods by a LANDSLIDE.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005, I hate golf, but the character creation in the Tiger Woods games is superb. The only golf games I really enjoy are the Hot Shots Golf games on the PS1/PS2. I'm actually not getting any of the 2, I'm going to get Star Wars: Battlefront, and probably the DVD Trilogy.

Ugh! I'm having the same dilemma, actually. XBOX as well.

I've been looking into both for a while now. IGN rated Def Jam an 8.7 and I'm still waiting to see what they think about TW 2005.

However, I own TW 2003 (for the GameCube) and I love that game. Haven't played it in a few months but I'll go back to it as long as I live. Played the hell out of it for a good year or so. Now, two years later, 2005 looks to add more than enough to make me want to buy it and enjoy it even more.

As omega2K4 mentioned, have you seen the character creation mode? It looks absolutely incredible. You can even recreate your own swing to perfection.

I think I'm leaning towards TW, myself. Good luck. :)

By the way, if you're just looking for a good game in general, Burnout 3 is awesome.

I think I too am leaning towards Tiger Woods.

It's really a shame Def Jam scrapped it's online mode, because if it were online I think I would pick it over TW. However, as it stands now, Tiger Woods is online, and given the amount of customization the game offers (plus a superb create a player), it makes the ability to go online really extend the game.

Def Jam apparently also has a great create a fighter mode, and lots of customization, but the fact that it was originally intended to be online, and isn't now, makes it a little bit of a letdown.

Lastly, I agree on Burnout 3. I picked that one up the day it was released and it's incredibly fun, and also very addicting. It's also another game that is superb online.

EDIT: IGN just put up their Tiger Woods 2005 review, and gave it a 9/10. The full rewiew can be read HERE.

Golf games are so fun, especially the Tiger Woods ones.

I would get Def Jam Fight 4 NY, because I hate golf.

Tiger Woods was the bigger seller today, but not by much. I'm not a fan of golf games, so I'd have to vote Def Jam. For Xbox, I'd prefer Star Wars: Battlefront over any of the above... and it sold like tits on a stick today.

Grondar 09-22-2004 03:30 AM

Thanks for the replies.

After reading/hearing feedback from those that bought Tiger Woods 2005, I am getting the vibe that it is still way too easy, even on the "Tour" difficulty.

People are saying they need to make a serious effort to hit the rough, and are still finishing with ridiculously low scores.

This isn't something I am excited about hearing, and it may have swayed me towards Def Jam Fight 4 NY. If only the game was online.. The decision would be so easy then.

....... im stuck on trying to figure out how well tits on a stick really would sell and if there is a money making opportunity there.....

Kinda hard to compare golf vs. wrestling. Having played both games I'd go for Tiger woods, just seems to be a better put together game, and at least has some replayability unlike about 98% of fighting games out there.

Grondar 09-22-2004 05:04 PM

I went with Def Jam and am really enjoying it a lot.

The fighting engine is really good, and I haven't seen slowdown or camera issues yet, which is good, because those were the two gripes that stood out in the reviews.

It's really fun to tweak your characters clothing, jewellery, and such, but the fighting system is really solid, and that is ultimately more important.

The story in Def Jam is also really good, which surprised me. I know the IGN review stated as much, but I figured that was probably just hot air.

I like the game a lot, and am glad I decided to pick it up. It's challenging, and there are tons of moves.. Very brutal moves at that.

I'm a sucker for "pimpin" out a character in nice clothes and bling bling, and I really enjoy that aspect of the game.

Sounds tight, man.

Congrats on the purchase and enjoy!
