what should I pick?
Ok so I'm behind on the times.. but I'm thinking about buying a new console. My brother has a PS2 that I play and it's ok but I'm thinking about buying an Xbox or a GameCube. I like some of the games that GC puts out but I think I'd enjoy the Xbox more. Should I just go ahead and shell out the cash or should I just wait for the PS3 to come out. Note I'm not much of a gamer. In other words I don't spend hours playing one game.. or I get bored and switch games every 10 minutes or so. Ok well help me out the best you can.

I say hold out if you can. The Xbox 2 and PS3 will be out in the next year, year and a half, so just wait for those to arrive. No sense in paying for a system that won't have any new games in a few years.

The next wave of systems will be out in 2006. Even so, they will still make games for the systems when the new ones are out. They always do.

There are a few other threads about this but consider:
Gamecube has a few killer games that you can't get anywhere else. If you want them, you have to get a gamecube. The Xbox has more variety, but you'd have to look at what games there are. As far as I'm concerned, if you already have a ps2 to play, I'd just use it.

given that you're just joining this generation's consoles and that the new generation is coming out in a year or two...
i'd get a gamecube for two reasons. 1) it's less expensive ($100 freakin dollars for the system, controller and metroid prime) so while you're unsure of what you want... the gamecube is significantly less of an investment. 2) you're late in getting into the current 3 systems, so that means that there are probably a lot of games out there you haven't played. nintendo has some real classics for their system that you can't get anywhere else... and the system has been out long enough to where you should be able to keep as busy as you like with the stellar games of the past few years until the new generation of consoles come out. my .02

I recommend XBox.
It's the most powerful, has the best online system, and has lots of reasonably priced ($20) "Classic" games that aren't that old at all. If you are debating between XBox and PS2, I definitely recommend going with an XBox. I used to be a PS2-only guy, and even blew off the XBox, but then my PS2 crapped out and I bought an XBox. I love it, and the only game I will miss is the new Grand Theft Auto, but I read that it is likely coming to XBox eventually, so I think XBox is a good decision. All the consoles have price dropped, which is one of the benefits of buying a system now. Also, I don't recommend waiting until the next batch of systems are released.. There are so many great games already out, and still being released, that it seems like you will be missing out on a lot while waiting for the newer systems to be released. XBox also is the best system for sports games IMO. Generally, they look the best, and if played online, have the best online layout and stability. If you do go with an XBox, here is a list of good games that are worth checking out. Lasererth originally posted this here, but I had saved it and will post the list here.
Take care and good luck with your decision.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
*SCREAMS IN TERROR AND RUNS AWAY* I'm not touching this thread. I'll just say that any of the consoles will do ya good as long as you buy the good games for them. -Lasereth

I'd recommend the Xbox, but that's only if you have broadband and enjoy playing lots of games online.

Well, Nintendo have pretty much confirmed that their next system will be backwards compatible, and they want it out before the PS3 / X-Box 2. You honestly, as Lasereth said, can't really go wrong with choice nowadays. If you have to choose just one, you'll miss out on some awesome titles, but you'll have access to some awesome titles. Pick which awesome titles you want on choose from there.
Oh, AND BUY A CUBE!@!!@1!@12onetwo!2shift

thanks for the advice.. I actually went out and bought a GameCube.. the game tips were helpful too... I may end up buying the Xbox next week.. heh then I'll have all 3.. the guy at EBgames said that microsoft is saying they might not make the Xbox2 backwards compatable..which would suck.. they will lose alot of business that way

I have all three of them, well four if you consider the gameboy too. I have three kids and a spouse, everyone wants to play a game on the weekends. I don't let my kids play VG during the week unless their report cards are good and then it's only about an hour a day.
Anyway, while GC does have some Nintendo only games, the XBox also has some Only on XBox games. PS2, you just can't go wrong with it so many games to choose from. Personally, I love the XBox the best. Now if they would only make the Command & Conquer and Warcraft/Starcraft series for the Xbox, I'd be set. Either that or get a new computer.
