Half-Life 2 going gold MONDAY!
Source!
"We're going gold monday..." Posted by Gabe Newell, Aug 28 2004, 12:10 AM. Oh sweet Jeebus, if this is true, and all goes according to plan... edit: I see someone mentioned this in the pre-load thread, so a mod can delete this if they feel it necessay, but I'm of the mind that news of this magnitude deserves its own thread :p ) edit 2: The site seems to be down or really slow due to everyone on the intarweb looking at the post, so alot of sites have gotten screenshots of the post, I.e.: HalfLife2.net edit 3: :hmm: :( !!! People are investigating the authenticity of the post, and someone has posted this on the steam forums: From : Gabe Newell <gaben@valvesoftware.com> Sent : Saturday, August 28, 2004 9:22 AM To : "ctarkin" <ctarkin@digiverse.net> Subject : GOLD? No, it's 100% fake. -----Original Message----- Hello Gabe, I've just read the thread in hl2fallout about HL2 going gold on monday. As a hardcore fan I must ask: IS THIS REAL? Thanks for the kickass game Chris 'tarkin' @ CS-Nation Originally Posted by Nex321 Just a heads up, the IP that the post was made on does not match gabe's previous IP(s), and does not match any ISPs gabe uses (valvesoftware.com, speakeasy). The IP is based in seattle, but maybe it's a clever fake. If this is not gabe's post it means he has, once again, had an account hacked. Its most likely a fake So I'll stop all this editin' and updatin' and goto sleep (and pray that it turns out to be true). |
Why do they insist on teasing? haha, for real, let's hope it's true.
|
They have reported that someone guessed his password for posting.... they said his pw was "gaben". Go figure...
|
If that is true and the fact that the source was on a open connected machine leads me to belive that Gabe isn't as smart as we may belive.

See.... I shit you not..... |

Hillarious, first Gabe put HL2 on the computer with freakin' Outlook on it then he freakin' has 'gaben' as his bloody forum password!
Someone slap him with the security stick please! |
Hilarious!

Just one more thing to add to the list of "Reasons why Valve has screwed up"
|
Just once, I wished that these HL2 release dates were real.
|
So... Does this mean Half Life 2 is going to be pushed back another six months while the fix their forum security?

EBGames has pushed back their HL2 release date to Nov. 1st. They can't confirm this date but have posted it as anticipated at that time. Which means it won't see the light of day till December.
The big question in my mind is: How does Valve survive with relatively no income (since they haven't had a hit after HL)? |
Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike Conition Zero still sold very well. Not to mention Day of Defeat. Steam cafe subscriptions brought in some income and with the millions of copies Half-Life sold, they've had more than enough money to survive on.
|
|
that is sweet
|
It wasn't their forums that this was posted on, it was a Half life fan site, but I still agree he could have picked better passwords...

That's the same password I was using. ...or was it :hmm:

NOOooooooo the semester just started! must... resist... temptation to play game I've been waiting years for!
|
Ok this is what I have heard from a source of mine about HL2 and it's release date...i'm not sure if this is 100% accurate so don't hold me to it...
The biggest problem with it's release is due to some legal battles between sierra and valve.....something about if it doesn't get finished in a certain time sierra has the right to let another company finish it. Right now the game is buggy as shit and crashes alot. So valve is gonna push for getting done for christmas time...but i guess during it's initial release date there will be a patch already for it (and many more to follow) and the game will ship without the multiplayer option. |
*cough*bullshit*cough*
|
So, how's the game?
Screenshots? |
I won't believe this game is released 'till I beat the last level while playing it on my comp.

I thought Sierra folded?
|
Yes - Sierra is gone. They are maybe 15 minutes from where I live. Too bad. Cool place, I hear. (well, it was....)
As for Valve...they are creating their own "cry wolf" story after which they will likely only sell 147 copies of HL2. |
I have no doubt that once HL2 has actually gone gold, there will be more bru-ha-ha than you could possibly be imagined put out by valve... They do after all need to start putting away income for the sequel which will undoubtedly take another five some odd years and be plagued by code thefts, lies and other melodramas.

How can that rurmor be true if they're preloading it via Steam? And shipping without multiplayer would be suicide. |
what I find hilarious is that Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, which uses the Half Life 2 engine, is going to be released BEFORE Half Life 2. Go figure.

I'd like to see it first.
Most likely someone is going to steal taht idiot Gabe's packed lunch and then the game will be delayed even more. Poor baby Gabe. That guy is an unprofessional idiot. |

Haha. Gabe is such a dipshit. I can't wait to play HL2 though. I hope it really does go gold...
