BF Vietnam WWII Mod - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

My initial impressions of the first official mod for Battlefield Vietnam are outstanding. I never played BF 1942 so the maps are all new to me, as is the gameplay style.

I'm totally loving PT Boat runs on the carrier.

I've looked at the side by side screenshots of these maps from BF42 vs Vietnam and tacking the BFV graphics engine onto the BF42 gameplay seems to have been an excellent move by EA. Maps are limited to just 3 right now, but I'm sure more will be on the way.

I hadn't played BFV for since I bought Joint Ops in June, but this has brought me back.

Ah, I did not forget it my friend. It was not made by EA.

EA didn't make any of the Battlefield games. They just publish them. Dice Europe made BF 1942 and Dice Canada made BF Vietnam. Battlefield 2 is being made by Dice Europe with the help of the Desert Combat crew I think, but EA will still be publishing it.

Edit: Oh yea, about the WW2 patch. Mostly it's BF 1942 with graphic updates, which is good. However, the flamethrower has some sound problems as it drowns out all other gun fire with it's whine noise, which I find highly annoying. They also still have the Vietnam type class selection. So medics are under the monkey wrench icon and such. I would also like to see more European maps, like Kursk. Still, I understand why they started with maps that they did. Still all-around thumbs up.

I just downloaded the mod and have been playing it all day. This is why I love DICE and EA! New mods and maps for free. I LOVE Invasion of the Phillipines. The flamethrowers are awesome as hell...you actually have to be good at them and use strategy to kill people. I was guarding a flag and a couple of guys were trying to get in the building I was hiding in, so I created a flame wall with the thrower until I had the flag. Then I went out and hosed'em down with some hellfire.

I don't have any complaints at all. I can't wait for the new maps!!!

It's a nice mod but laggy as hell. Pretty unplayable once you get in the weeds or some kinda tall grass. I prefer the PoE Mod for BFV. My clan runs it 24/7 on our server. http://www.pointofexistence.com/

Unplayable when you get in the weeds or tall grass? That sounds like a lack of gaming power.

It doesn't lag one bit on my PC (unless the server sucks). Going into grass shouldn't cause lag...lag is caused by either a slow server or a crappy computer that you're playing it on.

I love, love, love this mod.
In fact, I was really on the fence about buying BFV in the first place, but when I heard they were doing the WWII mod, I had to go ahead and buy it. I'm glad I did.
From what I've read, though, they aren't planning on doing any more of the BF1942 maps. I wish they would.
