Where to find an old NES (2) ...
--this is a duplicate of a post I have in Electronics, where I haven't had much luck. I thought the gamers might have more connections/ideas--
I'm looking for a couple dirt cheap old school NES systems for some case-mod action. It has been done, but I still want to try a couple options; maybe an itx portable style, an emulator machine, etc. I've hit ebay. Seems everyone is selling functional systems at prices that are higher then I'd like. Also, as a Canadian, the exchange and the shipping across the border is painful, which really limits my ebay options. I've hit local used game/pawn type shops. Well, two of them. Neither of which had an old nintendo, although one had about 20 nes carts. Any suggestions on where I can dig up some cases? They don't need to be functional- preferably not considering I want them as cheap as possible. |
Try putting a classified ad up in the newspaper with the price you'll offer for an NES. Scour any garage sales you come across (I picked up a Sega Master System and a dozen or so games for $20 at one a couple of years ago). I've even seen NESes at Salvation Army thrift stores. Keep your eyes open, and your ears to the ground and you'll find one soon enough.
Be sure to post pics of your system when you're done with it. |
Funcoland usually has a few.

Put up a wanted ad at any local colleges.

I still have our original NES and SNES, in working order. Man, nothing beats a game of ol' skool ice hockey. The fat guys ROCK!!!
|
Sometimes Gamestop and EB have them. I see them occasionally and consider buying it.
|
sometimes you can get a good deal on ebay, but its usually during the middle of the day during the week, i have seen some systems sell for reall cheap, the only place where they hit you though is the shipping...
|
EDIT : i just realized the 2 places i typed were already listed and now i will back away from this thread. my bad

Pawn shop... Garage sales.... maybe even friend's basement pile of junk.

99 cents cheap enough for you, 22 hours left, hurry.

Think he wanted a working one that he could mod and use, no?
Edit: Re-read his post. /bonk! |
I was able to dig up a pair of broken ones a couple weeks ago in a pawn shop. The project is on hold for a little bit as I've been terribly busy lately. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Just a note at how crazy things are on ebay, that nes auction that shaggy found went for 14.50+11.00 shipping. For a broken one! |
I found one at Goodwill once. System was $4, games were a $1. But if I bought one, I'd look for one of those top loading ones....They're more expensive though.

Funcoland is now game stop and they don't even carry dreamcast.

Two words... Garage Sales... My parents go to garage sales all the time and they have a stack of NES consoles about 4 feet high and thats just one stack.
If you can find them garage sales are the way to go. Plus you might get lucky and get a top loading one for cheap. |
I found mine in old comic book shops, old record stores, old bookstores. Basically any store that sells old stuff and has a section for electronics. Garage sales are also a good idea, and I would check your classifieds. Also, if your town has a recycling center, or a small dump, ask the people that work there. I know that at my old job at the recycling center, we had more than a few go through there, and if you find the right person, he may keep your name and number in case one shows up.
