world series of poker
anybody know anything about the world series of poker? i was thinking about trying to get into it via a feeder game, but i'm not sure how/where to do that and was hoping someone here might have an idea.
also, do we have any poker players on tfp? i've been playing with friends for years, but nothing serious. this may not be the right forum, but since tilted advice is gone, i'm not really sure which is best. mods move it as you feel necessary. thanks guys! |

It links to a website created by some university researchers trying to perfect the ultimate poker playing bot. Those bots are pretty damn good. Very good practice, and its all free. No frills graphics, but good poker..... |
Hey Mael,
You can always try qualifying through an online poker casino. This year's winner, Chris Moneymaker, qualified through PokerStars.com. The buy-in rates for live (in-person) tournament are quite high. Personally, I don't play poker, but I like to play blackjack and sports betting. |
I'm nowhere good enough for poker... I'll stick to the horses

Yeah, poker just plays with my god damn emotions too much, I can't play it well, because I get so frustrated and have absolutely no poker face.

its on ESPN. i watch it when my dad does, it's interesting, intense games, lotsa $$$$, still its semi boring.

I play poker. There are lots of web sites where you can play poker for money or for play money. And many of them are offering tournaments to win seats in the WSOP and other big cash tournaments. All you have to do is go to their site and download their program, register and you're in. You can play against other people with free play chips if you want; a good way to get a feel for how the game works online with a mouse. Then you can open an account and play for real money and enter tournaments. Hey Again mentioned PokerStars. A couple other good and well established sites are Paradise Poker and PartyPoker.
The best place for information about what the various sites are offering is Card Player magazine. If there's any kind of casino around you with a poker room they'll have it. There is a website but I don't think it has the ads in it. But their site is excellent and has links to other poker sites. That should get you started. Good luck! |
Good Luck, Mael.
There are several ways to get into the bigger tourneys. Thile some people have mentioned the on-line way, there are also "feeder" tournaments held throughout the year. These tourneys have a low entrance fee, between a hundred and a thousand dollars, and offer prizes plus the fee to get into the bigger tourneys. You can also always enter the big tourneys by themselves - it just will cost alot more. Finally, check out the WPT (world poker tour) as well. They seem to play alot more - might be easier to get started playing competitively with them. |
The thing I love about the WSOP is that a couple of amateurs always make it to the final table. If you get a good run going it can carry you all the way through. I hope one day, when Im more independantly wealthy to enter the world series just for the expierience.
Id personally try to win one of the feeder tournaments and get in that way. |
i wish i had the cojones to play poker... i've got too many tells and get too excited at the wrong times...
i know that there are buy in tourneys around the country.. haven't ever seen them advertised...i do like watching it when it's on the tube... |
Isn't the world championship in poker held at Binion's Horseshoe or something like that?

I love playing poker with friends (might play this weekend in fact), but don't know if I could ever play in a real tournament. Too many good players and way too much money going round. I'd lose my shirt. |
The show on espn is amazing to watch. The people are betting more money than a lot of us are gonna see in our paychecks thsi year.

gaming thread... moved to the gaming forum... how the hell about that?

im 18 and just starting to really getting into poker. ive been reading a few books, watching tourneys on digital cable, and playing online, A LOT. i used to play yahoo hold'em, but there were way too many casual people who didnt know what they were doing. so i downloaded Paradise Poker and found it to be a very good online game. in the past few weeks ive really been wanting to go to atlantic city and see how long i could sit at a table without being carded (you have to be 21 to play in a casino, and i barely look 18). ive been playing a lot of home games with my friends and uncle and id love to try it in a real public game
