Favourite game(s) of all time?
Might as well start this thread while the boards new =)
Whats your favourite game(s), and why? post a really small review so we know why, and so we can see if its our cup of tea. 1) System Shock 2 This game has more atmosphere then any two other games out there. Its creepy, believable, and fantistically written and scripted. MP is a bit lacking, but the incredible SP more then makes up for it. Great game. 2) Descent Freespace 2 For the first time in a space sim, this game feels like you are fighting space. HUGE capital ships fire massive beams many times the size of your ship at each other, and you seriously feel very insignificant. Apart from that, a wonderfuly written SP campaign and a great MP section makes this an all time favourite. so whats your favourites, and why? Last edited by Loki; 04-19-2003 at 01:47 AM.. |

Diablo2
Replayability of the game is insane. Multiplayer was great before hacking but that wasn't a problem until the game was well passed its prime. Lunar and Lunar 2 Two great stories. Not only are the games good, they also came packaged with toys and collectables Castlevania(s) All the 2d versons of the game are great. The 3d versions weren't great but Gameboy advance is keeping the series alive. Honorable mentions: Zelda Metroid Final Fantasy 6/7/9/tactics Resident Evils Silent Hills Other great games that just aren't coming to mind right now.

I'm old school, so I'd have to say Mike Tyson's Punchout was one fo the greatest of all time, on the PC I enjoy Diablo 2, and Simcity 2000 was great.

Half-Life: The single player is still one of if not the best single player experience ever. Great story line and alot of interactivity. Lots of "Oh shit" factor too. It wasn't too "solve the puzzle" typy of SP but just a matter of staying alive.
Also has some of the best mods out. Still worth playing online despite its age.

1. Ocarina of time... never have i played a better game, especially at the end, i just wanted it to go on and on with the dark atmosphere....
2. Super Smash Bros. (Melee) i hate all other fighters execpt for this series... pure simple fun. 3. Super Metroid... downloaded the rom, it was great... beat it about 5 times. 4. Warcraft 3... best RTS i've played... i like it much better then starcraft, but thats more a personal preference.. i don't own a ps2, psx, so i'm missing out on all the really great RPGs.... i wish nintendo would re-release some of the FF and chrono trigger for GBA.. |

Operation Flashpoint
A real kick in the pants when it came out. Still play it. Sometimes a real bear and the physics are "wacky" at times, it still has me coming back. System Shock (1) Really state of the art in it's time. It's mix between a FPS and an RPG along with it's story element made it a favorite for me. Granted, nothing beats the howl of psionic monkeys in the sequel (a sound which haunts me even now) but it had it's own immersion in the day. Freespace 2 I always enjoyed massive shockwaves and huge beam weapons. The game was space sim of the year, but sadly didn't sell well. Same fate for BZ1. Battlezone Released by Activision in 1998. Didn't sell well either, but was one of the few good takes on an old game. Independence War A newtonian space sim which lived up to it's "spaceship in a box" description. Hideously complex and frustrating at times, it somehow paid off to fly a ship with completely manual thrusters, a nice change from the X-Wing dynamic of space sims that preceded it. Falcon 4 I'd say simulation, but in my mind, it still ranks as one of the best simulations of all time.

Back when I was a little kid and didn't have to work for a living.
In the 70's 80's arcade games were everywhere. I had two favorites that I droped tons of quarters into. Could have bought a mercades by now. # 2 was Battle Zone.... I could play for an hour on one quarter. #1 ZAXXON... I was soooo good. could play till the power was cut off. Loved the game so much named my doberman Zaxxon. Todays games require thought yuck Could play the others stoned. Really stoned!

GTA 1, London, 2, 3, & Vice City - Open Ended gameplay at it's best, or you could say worst.
Tribes 2 - Big servers are best... something about 60 people fighting in tanks, fighters, bombers, and on foot is just plain fun. Doom 1 & 2 - Classics, and they're even more fun with the mods that add in 3d models. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Best open-ended RPG I've ever played. Massive, with tons of mods out to make it even bigger. The Shining Series - Sega's best RPG series. Glad the team responsible for the last ones made the Golden Sun games for GBA. Anything Blizzard - It's Blizzard. 'Nuff said. Command & Conquer... yes, I even liked Tiberian Sun, oh, if only the gameplay was better thought out.... - While bugged by team balance issues, the massive armies and cool technologies of the games are why I like them. Am basing my list on what games kept me playing longer than I should (ie, weeks and months in some cases)
1. Elite Totally enthralling. One of the first games that made you keep playing because the status actually meant something. You had to put in serious hours to get to Elite. 2. Ultima Underworld II Came on 5 disks and this game was huge (gigantic levels). You kind of got lost in it and it was so atmospheric - even the music was kinda cool. 3. System Shock The first game that really scared me. Sometime I didn't play at night 4. Doom I & II What can you say - still remember installing 0.99 and thinking OMG!! 5. Colin McRae Rally II Having owned a rally car once before this is how I get my fix now. 6. Red Alert Just played for hours - reaslised I like war games and this was one of the first RTS games that really worked. Syndicate would be a close second to this. Wolfinstien 3D-Because it started the whole FPS craze! And that sums all my votes towards the FPS format. ie; Quake UT
The MYST Trilogy-Call me a geek, but I realy enjoyed this collection. Even to the point where I bought the series of books and loved them. EverQuest-I was a slave to this game for two years. Tribes-This is more tactical than FPS, so it gets it's own vote from me. There's more, but I won't name them all, but these are my top four.
